Anyone reading or planning to read Drinking Coffee Eleswhere by ZZ Packer. It's the BOM for my bookclub and I've started it and probably read 3/4th of the stories. I'm really enjoying them they're quite eclectic and really come to life when you discuss them with others. |

THis woman...along with Bernice McFadden, A. J. Verdelle (and possibly Mary Monroe) is going to be one of the next truly DEFINING voices in black contemporary women's fiction. ZZ Packer is absolutely OFF THE HOOK. She's astonishing. Like Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin used to sing--this woman can write. Very rarely do authors deserve to be compared to people like Morrison, Walker, Hurston, etc. But I can safely tell you that ZZ Packer is in that company along with McFadden and Verdelle. Zadie Smith is another one. |

Yasmin--the Professor they assigned to interview me for NEWSWEEK magazine is a close co-worker with ZZ Packer at Stanford University. I just found this out yesterday. I was astonished to be speaking with someone who works with her on a daily basis! I really idolize her.

Just ordered "Drinking Coffee Elsewhere". I read her stories in the New Yorker and was incredibly impressed. She is a bright light. Bayou |

Readers of ZZ Packer: Is anyone interested in a dialogue on her book?
