Speaking of books that are getting great press from non-AA mediums...has anyone heard about or read the following books: Drinking Coffee Elsewhere by ZZ Packer Getting Mother's Body by Suzan-Lori Parker I've read many of the stories by Packer and I must admit that I was feeling them. One of the other AET reviewers told me if I liked Drinking Coffee Elsewhere then I should definitely read Water Street by Crystal Wilkinson. She read both and actually preferred Water Street. So I plan to add Crystal's book to my long TBR list...sigh. Same individual also read/reviewed Getting Mother's Body and recommended that I move it up on my TRL. For those who haven't heard of Getting Mother's body, it will be released this month and there's an article in the latest Essence/Ebony regarding the author and the book. I believe there's even an excerpt. Quietly as it's kept, I really want to move up Getting Mother's Body back on my trl because it sounds like a fun read but first I have to read a couple of other books...which I hope are GOOD. But who knows, I've been known to switch gears in the past esp. if I'm not feeling a review book...so I might actually get to sneak in and read Getting Mother's Body this week. I'll keep ya'll posted. |

Yvette - I am half way through an advance reader's copy of "Getting Mother's Body" and it is indeed a fun ride. I think the book will be released in June. Whenever it hit's the shelves, get it. You will enjoy it. I'm pretty sure someone will option this book for the small screen or an independent film (I hope). It's got HBO or Showtime all over it. I'll post my review when I'm done. Blessings.

Hey Yvette...thanks for the word of mouth regarding Getting Mother's Body...I have it and as soon as I can knock out a couple of review books its on! Hmm...I was just thinking is Suzan-Lori Parks also the writer of the play Top Dog...if so she might definitely be thinking along the lines of a screenplay. |
