Hey all, think back over all the books you've read recently and let me know who some of your debut author favorites are/were. Please include their book titles. Some of mine... This Side of the Sky by Elyse Singleton Rising by Darnella Ford (LOVED the self-pub version) A Quiet Storm by Rachel Howzell Hall Pretenses by Keith Lee Johnson Water in a Broken Glass by Odessa Rose -Tee |

More Like Wrestling - Danyel Smith. This was such a beautifully accomplished book, and the author really had a handle on her characters and the camaraderie amongst a group of displaced kids in Oakland. THIS IS REALLY WORTH CHECKING OUT. N: A Romantic Mystery by Louis Edwards-- This one is a couple years old but very well done. Bayou Lights

Bayou, thanks for responding...and sorry for my delay in following up, guess I got caught up in the move. I purchased both of the ones you listed earlier this year and I look forward to reading them. Anyone else have debut authors they'd like to share? I'm running a feature on them now and I may try and post some information on the boards though it may not take my formatting. -Tee |

Bayou--I also enjoyed More Liks Wrestling by Danyel Smith. Some other debut books I recommend are: Dancing on the Edge of the Roof by Sheila Williams Triple Take by Yanier Moore Bliss by Gabrielle Pina Drinking Coffee Elsewhere by Zz Packer (esp. if you enjoyed Danyel's writing style) Misdeameanor by Tanya Marie Lewis The Portable Promised Land by Toure Free by Anika Nalilah Thief of Letters by Janet Johnson Memories of Yesterday by Cheryl Robinson* Illegal Affairs by Sheila Dansby Harvey* The Puzzle by Tracey D. Scott* Choices Men Make by Dwayne Joseph* That's the Way Love Goes by Darryl Diggs* *Self Published Authors who show promise...althought I would probably rate their books a 3 because while I thought they were good they were not necessarily o/standing...but others have raved about them. |
