Hello All,

Yep, that's right. I knew it had to be coming. The most quoted movie ever is finally getting a grand treatment. Tuesday, February 18, 2003, the special edition of The Color Purple will be released! The special edition is a 2 DVD set. The set contains a lot of extra stuff: 4 documentaries, restored picture and sound. I can't wait. It's about time. I was just about to break down and buy that other edition. I'm glad I didn't.

I will be there when the store opens -- The Color Purple is my all time favorite movie. And in my opinion - a masterpiece!

Hello All,

I just finished watching The Color Purple special edition DVD set. It's beautiful, beautifully done. The sound and picture is awesome. The second DVD has four different documentaries...its really one great big one. It has the four stars one it, the producer, director and Alice Walker.

Now matter how many times I watch the movie, I still cry at the same three parts: when Mr. seperates Celie and Nettie; when Sophia knocks hell out of the mayor (but I'm crying then cause I'm so PISSED); and of course the reunion.

You all know I'm into movies, so I love DVDs with the extra stuff. As I was watching them, I recall all of the controversy The Color Purple got, Alice Walker got and then, as now, I STILL don't get what the fuss was about. Then when I look back on all of the movies black directors and such has been making and I can't recall one movie that I hold as dear, or one that I can watch over and over and over again and not get tired of it. Why is that? After all that commotion, where's the black directed, black written The Color Purple? Where is it? Oh, we've come close, but we haven't achieve it. We got that romantic comedy thang down, we can kick butt with the best of 'em, but emotionally? Where's the second coming of The Color Purple? Where's the epics?

Would Whoopi Goldberg have been selected to play Celie? Would any dark skin black actress have been selected to play the lead? As I look back on all of the movies that have come out and been black directed and black written, there is NO dark skin black actress in any of the leads. Why is that? Yeah, I know why, but I just thought I would throw it out there anyway.

Let's consider it my random thought.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the DVD set. I am trying to decide whether to buy it and I think that I will.
