Congrats Linda I'm sure you did your best and that all you can do. My hat's off to you. I didn't even know you were a writer. I know you're a great debator *smile* but I had no idea you were an aspiring writer. Good luck, I'm sure it's a good read. What's it about?

Althea is a story about the plight of the light skinned individual in a very Black and White world that scrutinzes color. Now, I am sure a debate will begin about this subject, for many individuals feel differently about skin color. We recently had a taste of it here on our board. Some feel white is right, if you black get back and if you brown stick around. But, inter-racial classification is just as racist as racism throughout the world. What about all the hues that just seem to be a tad off the mark? Are they half, one-forth, one eight or just not black enough for some? Do we treat them any differently even though they are still classified as black. The issue of light-skin color still does exist, is still relevant today and is an issue that is usually swept under the carpet. I try to show it through Althea's eyes as she grows into a world that shuns her at times, causing her to sometimes question herself. |

Cynique, you might be right. But I would love for her to read Althea. Maybe she would understand that she is not the only person in the world that has been hurt because of their skin tone and that carrying/unleashing hate doesn't change a thing. |
