Hello All,

Last night, I went to a Jewell Parker Rhodes book reading in Indianapolis at the new location of X-Pressions. Although I saw her a few months ago at the Harlem Book Fair, last night was the first time I actually spoke to her, and told her that I fell in love with her after I read her second novel, Magic City. The reading was wonderful. I had just started The Douglass' Women yesterday and was captivated. I'm so glad that Linda told me about the reading the day before. I had a good time.

Please make sure you read my favorite Rhodes novel "Voodoo Dreams". She a great writer and very personable. After meeting her at a reading of "Voodoo Dreams", we chatted and later exchanged greeting cards with each other. A class act.

Douglas Women is mesmorizing and definitely gives a peek into the women behind the man. It was nice to hear their voice and to read that while Frederick Douglass was a great man he wasn't necessarily perfect. He was a flawed character who unfortunately after he had a taste of freedom he went buck wild as far as the opposite sex was concerned. As the saying goes...I ain't mad at him but I did raise my eyebrows alot while reading the Douglass Women. And can someone say bring on the boxing gloves...ole Freddy definitely didn't have one feeling much empathy for him.

I agree that the book was excellent. I have a galley that I plan to cherish. She is a wonderful writer and I look forward to reading more of her work.

Peace,
Zane
