Okay . . . I know many of you raved about Satisfy My Soul. But I must say, I don't know why. I am on page 57 and so pissed at how slow the story is taking off. Carey and Frances are making me sick with their game of hard to get. I want to scream...just do it already and get on with the story. I mean there is some story here, right? Please tell me where it starts so I can sprint to that page. If not, I must stop. I just can't take it. My soul is not satisfied. Please tell me why I should go on. |

Linda, I'll do you one better. Instead of going on trying to read the book, go on and fling it as hard as hard as you can into the nearest body of water, preferably one filled with book-eating fish. I've never read the book, but I did have the misfortune of reading an article Mr. Channer wrote in an issue of Essence magazine last year. As far as I'm concerned, he's persona non grata with me, and I won't waste a dime on him, period. Hopefully, you'll be compelled to feel the same way. On second thought, Linda, feeding fish that kinda crap is considered animal cruelty. Bury it in your backyard instead. |

Claxton, I'm glad to know I am not alone. If it takes this much work to get to the meat I'd rather have a salad. At least, I know there is something in the bowl I can chew on. First thing on my list of to do for tomorrow is head for the shovel in the garage. |

Hi Linda and Claxton, I know Colin and he reads this board. So I'm sure he'll know how you both feel. I thought Satisfy My Soul was excellent (for that kind of market). But I told him; "He's the Boyz 2 Men of books!" You remember how they used to "beg" and kiss up to the women? LOL I think Colin's a sweet guy. He's got a great "ba" (spirit strays from merely being, a Nilotic Egyptian term). |

It appears Colin's book are not for everyone. My sister read it first, and she absolutely loved it and gave it to my sis-in-law, who couldn't get through it at all. I read it next, an my first attempt was not good, but I blame it on not being in the mood for romance. The very next time I picked it up, in a much calmer spirit, I was able to enjoy the poetic phrases Colin so expertly writes. I guess its just comes down to whats your cup of tea...and who wouldn't love a man who write so beautiful and passionate about a woman, plus he's a nice guy and very charming. |

Okay...lets not get carried away here. Colin, who I have much respect for as a fellow author is not on trial. It's the book that I am having a problem with. Obviously we all read for different reasons. Enjoyment, enlighten and a smooth story are my top priorities. I love to imagine as much as the next person. Whether it's romance, suspense or any ohter genre, but I want to feel it. Now, excuse me if I find no outstanding dialogue or picture perfect scenes at the beginning of Satisfy My Soul that are satisfying my soul. I hear no poetic rythme, just annoying ramblings that move at a snail's pace. And Colin, if you are keeping up with this post: Much love to you my brother. Nothing personal. It's just my opinion, and this one isn't for me. |

Colin Channer may be a nice guy, and as I've mentioned here before, he's definitely entitled to his opinion. Heck, I may even be inclined to sit down and knock back a couple cold ones with the brother--something non-alcoholic, of course. But I still have a bone to pick with him regarding that article in Essence last May. To give you a better understanding of exactly how big a bone this is, I was willing to pay my wife newsstand price for the issues of Essence she hadn't received up to that point, just so I could cancel the subscription. Of course, being in a female-oriented magazine, I expect the articles to spin that way. But that article was too much. Essence was still irresponsible for printing it, and equally irresponsible for not publishing opposing viewpoints from--of all people!!--black men. They've done it on other occasions in their Letters to the Editors section, so they have no defense. Incidentally, I don't particulary care for "begging" music, and especially not for Boyz II Mens's variety of it. That's part of the problem with relationships right there. Men too dumb to know when they've got a good thing and women too dumb to know when the thing is dead. There's not enough screen space for this, so I'm going to quit writing right now before I really get rolling. |
