Hey guys, WElcome back, AGAIN!!! Missed ya, as always. My question for you is, what are you reading over the holidays. I've packed my bag with Mary Monroe's, Gonna Lay Down My Burden. After that, who knows? What's your choice? |

OK let's seeeee. We don't have book to read in my local book club for December (we have a Christmas party instead!) so my month is wide open. I will finish the short stories in After Hours, then pick up Standing in the Scratch Line again--I started this book last month but put it down for some reason. Then I'll take a break from my AA authors and catch up on my James Patterson mysteries, he's got a new one out now, but I'm behind on the Alex Cross series. |

Hi Sandra, I just finished "Violets Are Blue" by James Patterson, and Alex Cross mystery and it was good! Waiting for "Four Blind Mice" to come out in paperback. I also read "Along Came A Spider" by James Patterson, it seems I forgot this one along the way. Loved it as well. Happy reading!! |

Sis, I think "Roses are Red" came out before "Violets are Blue". Check it out. You must read his books that feature the women crime solvers. 1st To Die (good read)is the first one, followed by 2nd Chance --havent read this one. |

I'm going to start the season off right by reading E. Lynn Harris' anthology, "Gumbo" and then I'm going to slow the pace with Lady Moses, by Lucinda Roy. |

Hello All, I am almost finished with Wrapped in Rainbows: The Life and Times of Zora Neale Hurston. It's alright, nothing to write home about. When I finish this one, I'm on to Zora Neale Hurston: A Life In Letters. Then I'm on to, hopefully, Zora's Mules and Men . I knew this was going to happen. *smile* |

Well, I'm a little behind, but I've definitely been getting my read on!! I've had quite a time over the last months, especially the last few weeks. I've read the following: A Man Most Worthy by Marcus Major - what can I say? Marcus Major is THE MAN!!! I loved Good Peoples and 4 Guys and Trouble, but AMMW puts him right at the top of my favorite author list. Little Girl Lost by Keith Lee Johnson - this is a new author, but the second of his books that I've read (the other is Pretenses which is one of my favorite books for 2002 and will be released early 2003--it's a suspense/mystery that in my mind rivals James Patterson's Alex Cross Series). Anyway, LGL was really good as well, about a young girl thrown into the life of prostitution and what she does to survive. Four Blind Mice by James Patterson, the latest in the Alex Cross series. I loved it!!! It's in the same Patterson style that I've grown to love, but I liked this one more because it told us more about Sampson and Nana Mama. The Ecstatic by Victor LaValle - this was a hard read for me initially because of the format of the book, so I put it down several times over a month's period, but I liked the subject matter, so I finally went back to it and enjoyed it. It's about an overweight schizophrenic, in a family of women with the same illness. Rising by Darnella Ford - For this one, I'd say PICK UP THE SELF-PUBLISHED version if you can find it. I liked the storyline, but felt the re-released version (Jan 2003) was a bit unrealistic and contrived...I hated the ending, yet the author's writing style was definitely obvious...she's awesome. The self-published version had me exclaiming loudly and I ran to call one of my girlfriends who had also read the new version. It took my rating from a 3.5 to a 5 without a doubt! That's enough for now...don't won't to get too long-winded. :-) -Tee |
