Hello All, I'm going to be quick about this one. I just finished The Right Mistake by Walter Mosley, its another collection of stories featuring Socrates Fortlow. It's absolutely wonderful! Mosley may not be right every time on every book, but there are times when he hits it right out of the park. |

Okay Thump, help me out here. This is a time that you can tell me that my mind is slipping ...because it is. I am a big Walter Moseley fan. If I could write like anyone, it would be him. I like his simple stories. His writing style is not filled with to many metephors and flowery prose. I own several of his books but my memory of Socrates Fortlow is ...well, dim. I can see a large man in humble surroundings. I believe he lives a minimal life. Didn't he do time? I think in one of his books he worked in a grocery store? Didn't Lawrence Fishburn play him in a movie? |

Thanks Thumper - I gave Right Mistake to my son for Christmas but I don't think he's read it yet. I may have to take it back for a quick read. But I'm looking forward to The Long Fall with his new P.I. guy although I still haven't given up on Easy! |

Hello All, Carey: Yeah, you are right about Socrates Fortlow. Mosley introduced him in the book Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned. A marvelous book! Socrates is an excon who was living on the streets in LA in the first book. Lawrence Fishburn did play him in a HBO movie with Natalie Cole in it. In The Right Mistake, Socrates started a community think tank and community center called The Big Nickel. It is da bomb! I love it! Mosley sticks to simple stories with powerful messages. It's up your alley, believe me! Crystal: Go ahead and snatch the book from your son for a minute. You'll love it. I did not know that Mosley had a new PI coming out. I wonder if he's going to continue with the Fearless Jones series? |

Mosley is a machine! He has to be the most prolific black author on the scene and all of his work has substance to it. How I admire him! |
