My computer died. It put me through so much frustration I almost decided to remain a cyber widow. But I got a new one. I pulled myself together and made the rounds, checking out a lot of different types and finally ended up just settling. I never thought the day would come when I'd put computers in a class with men. You can't live with em and you can't live without em. Watta drag. |

Cynique, just reading of your "man problems" makes me shudder, lol! My laptop was out of commission for a while, so my boyfriend lent me one of his while mine was being repaired. It was a nice laptop, but it wasn't *my* laptop... In its transit back from Dell after repairs were done, my laptop was MIA for a minute due to a mix up between Fed Ex and my boyfriend's p.o. I was ill until my baby was present and accounted for. ;-) That said, I'm looking at Mac once my warranty expires... |

Hello All, Cynique: What I want to know is...how do you like Microsoft Vista. I got my laptop a few months ago and can not stand Vista. How is it coming along with you? |

It didn't take me long, Thumper, to decide that I do not like Vista! It makes simple tasks so hard. I have yet to figure out how to exit a page. There is no "X" to click on to close a site. I am having a very difficult time adjusting to all the changes I have to make. I want my Hewlet Packard desktop PC, Windows XE back. |

windows 7 is supposed to be much better and faster than vista --even favorably comparble to the MAC OS. I've been a windows user since it was invented. I actually had to refer to the documentation in order to figure out how to simply print a web page?!? |

Hello This is an interesting discussion. I am stuck in the ice age and I think I am lucky. I found myself in the middle of a husband and wife team that were talking about this subject. He puts systems together and she a user. Anyway, ignorance is blish because I didn't even know the evolution of Vista or any operating system. Heck, I didn't even know that word perfect is not still used by many. Cynique mentioned something about not being able to click out of a page. See, I was using my cousins PC and I thought it was me. I could not find a way to get out of a page. I was looking for the big X. I think I'll just stay dumb, it's so much easier. Their arguement went all over the place. He was trying to tell her that it's natural for many to get comfortable with their systems but if a person has the patience they'll find that everything they've been accustom to doing with their old unit can be done with the new systems and more efficently. She argued that that was not true. They went at it. He builds and sales systems, she's uses them. They are a house divided :-). |

Yeah, Vista can be a drag on your resources and legacy software. I have it loaded on two of my boxes. The interface and security is a lot different from XP. Which is the cause of so much frustration from newbie’s. It takes time to become comfortable with it. My biggest complaint is the redundancy of Vista which can be very annoying. There are a number of specific issues that I would like to be addressed. Windows 7 will be out earlier from what I heard. They have pushed the release date up to later this year (from what I was told -don't hold my feet to the fire on this one). And W7 is out in Beta so you can down load it and give it a test drive. I have it but have yet to give it a spin (been doing to many other things). I have noticed a big Mac laptop invasion as of late. There are numerous coffee shops that I frequent and I have noticed that no less than 65% of the students I see all have Mac laptops. This is a major swing from three years ago. I mean it is very noticeable! The majority now have Mac laptops. I have used Macs before but I can’t get excited about them. I have my personal reasons. But the people who use them and the people who were former Windows users love them and swear by them. That says a lot. |

I can't believe how my new computer and Vista have impacted on my life. I am a creature of habit and if a change isn't for the better I am bummed out. I wish I could press a "restore" key and be put back into my comfort zone. |

While we're on the subject of dying laptops, I want to warn y'all! I got the SICKEST virus the other day it and shut my shit DOWN; I can't even turn it on cause I only get a blue Stop error "the system has been shut down" screen. There's some trojan going around called Vornol or SOME shit!! It attacks your hard drive and buries itself deep into it. The way to avoid this is to NOT surf the web under an administrator accout...create a regular user account for surfing because that's how the trojan is able to access all of your desktop, etc. I am taking mine to a friend and hope that he can retrieve all of my documents and it sounds like he will be able to. I can only pray that the backup disc I DO have has all of my writings on it cause I haven't looked at it in a while. WAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!! |

And just as I was trying to download and install BOTH Stopzilla and anti-malware stuff, it actually BLOCKED the site so I couldn't even get to it. If that ain't fucked up, then I don't know what is. Some of my friends managed to get theirs installed in time, but mine got worse. I'm leaving it alone til I get it into my friend's hands. I know of at least SIX people this has happened to in the past week due to infected ads on different sites. Be careful! There is a special place in hell for people who have nothing better to do than creat some bullshit like this. I hope THEY get a virus they can't get rid of, and not on they muhfuckin computers EITHER. LOL |

I don't have any picks because I haven't seen any of the films or performances of the actors and movies up for awards. In spite of how you like to categorize me as a rabid repository of pop culture, Chrishayden, all I know about this scene is what I see on TV and the internet, and read in the newspapers. |
