The State of California has run out of money!!! AND they are going to issue IOUs for tax refunds!!! WTH??? See, I usually end up owing the Feds a few bucks so I file the state first, get my refund and then pay the Feds. What’s a woman to do now? Oh yeah, college grants are gonna be late, retirement checks are gonna be short and some state employees [probably NOT the no-budget-passing legislators though] are being forced to take 2 non paid days off a month, etc., etc., etc . . . |

And, of course, you California tax payers are expected to foot the hospital bill of this obsessive breeder with no visible means of support who just gave birth to octuplets. You probably paid for her fertility treatment, too. Waa-waa. See what happens when America introduces Iraqis to democracy?? |

Isn't Cali also holding on to folks' tax refunds for a little while? I'm sure they won't include interest when they finally do arrive. |

Hello All, Crystal: Although California is hurting, as your governor said it would be, doesn't it make you feel better that with Obama trying to get the states like California some funds, your good buddies the Republicans, are looking out for you and your fellow Californians by blocking the stimulus package? After all, it must be just California because McCain's Arizona, Ensign's Neveda, and McConnell's Kentucky aint feeling such pain. |

California has been in a mess for a while. Arnold just made it worse. Ever since the dot.com industry went bust, we have lost much of our lucrative tax base. But we will be okay. By the way the young woman with the 14 kids has a million dollar offer from Oprah and many, many others. She is set for life. Who knew having kids could be a cottage industry? |

Do all the offers mean this woman will pay her 3.1 million dollar hospital bill??? Set for life? Depends on whether or not any of those low-birth weight preemies turn out to be special needs children. |

I would say she'll have her medical bills paid for, no problem. Whatever drama occurs with these infants, will only serve to heighten interest in her story. Could Oprah, Letterman, book editors, Hollywood agents all be wrong? |

You are a lot more optimistic than I am, Robynmarie. Are the astronomical fees purportedly to be paid for her appearances rumor or fact? There is a lot of resentment against this woman because her actions are irresponsible and send the wrong message and there might be a backlash. And to make matters worse she is, heaven help us, an - ARAB! |

Hello All, Yeah, that white woman having all of those kids in a damn hospital...what a weakling. I long for those good ol days. Don't you Cynique? When women had babies at home or in the backseat of a taxi. See, women were STRONG back in them days. Yeah, REAL STRONG BLACK WOMEN!! *big smile* I'm kidding a little, but my paternal grandmother had all 13 of her kids by herself. She said she went into the woods (rural Georgia) ALONE and had birthed all of her kids that way. She said that she didn't want nobody to see her naked ass. *LOL* True story. *LOL* But you know I always thought to myself, you had 13 kids somebody had to see it. *LOL* |

Don't get me started on that woman. Her fertility Dr. should go to jail. Rumor has it ALL her children were artifically insemination using the same donor's sperm. Probably the Dr.[wasn't that the story line of a tv show]??? Her Mama has all but said she's crazy. Oops, "obsessed with having children." Robyn's right. She's got it made. Don't forget, this is Hollywood and she's got people now. |

Well, Thumper, I was born at home, myself, back during the depression, right here in the little Illinois village where I still live. My father had a part-time job cleaning up a doctor's office, and in lieu of paying my daddy his usual salary one week, the doctor came to our house and delivered me with the help of my mother's best friend who was a nurse. It said in the news that the octuplets' mother is, of all things, an Iraqi, Robynmarie. It was mentioned that her father was going back to Iraq to try and earn enough money to keep them afloat. I don't know what her circumstances for being in this country are, - but she is a college-educated woman with a degree in some kind of childrens studies. They showed her ex-husband who she is divorced from and who did not supply the sperm for the fertilization process. The mother said her daughter was obsessed with having children and that when her grandkids came home from the hospital, she was "outta there." |

I agree Crystal. That fertility doctor should be thoroughly investigated. Her first six kids were by artificial insemination also, by the same donor so they say. I smell a scam... I think her father is an interpreter working in Iraq. I believe the mother of the 14 kids is Caucasian American. |

Hello I am inclined to believe that everything will be okay. We know that money doesn't bring you happiness and no one can pick your lovers for you. If this women loves children, that's her right to find her happiness the way she pleases. It's been proven that large families do not suffer any more ills of society than a family of four. It will be a challenge to raise that many children of the same age but she's sure to have help. I am rooting for her. I wish her and the children much success. |

It's also the right of tax payers to resent their money going to take care of a mother to whom having children boils down to being a hobby that fulfills HER needs. I'm really not sure of my info, Robynnmarie, so maybe what you say is correct. |

My prediction is that the Religious Right will latch onto this story. I have read that these children are the result of "left-over" embryos from a previous IVF procedure, and that she had them all implanted because she did not want them destroyed. Most clinics have a date after which they will no longer keep cryopreserved embryos and give patients the option to donate them for research, to another patient undergoing treatment, have them destroyed, or undergo further treatment themselves. During the G. W. Bush presidency there was a backlash against reproductive and stem cell research of all kinds, despite the obvious benefits and our nation's slow start in conducting this work. Add to that, we have very few legal guidelines here about reproductive technology. Hopefully both these situations will change under an Obama presidency. |

Tax payers are who have to foot this woman's enormous hospital bill, Carey. I agree, Yvette. This will become a cause celebre for all of the Right-to-Lifers. This baby machine will be hailed for mass producing children. To me, what this woman has done in "exercising her right to bear litters" is comparable to someone exercising their right of free speech by yelling "fire" in a crowded theater. At some point responsibility should become a part of the equation. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt can collect children as a hobby because they are not depending on anyone else to take care of them. About ten years ago the father of a large family which included quadtuplets committed suicide because he just couldn't take the pressure. His marriage suffered and he had no life of his own. |

Well Cynique, I still have questions about, "Tax payers are who have to foot this woman's enormous hospital bill, Carey" Are you sure about that... really sure??? Lets keep in mind the Arab thang *hint*. You keep throwing this thang around about hobbies. What's up with that? I can't believe that you even called Angelina's and Brad Pitt's affairs a hobby. That deflated your arguement... it really did. It appears you have a thang against large families or those that adopt children outside of their own race. If that is not true, how do you view those that adopt several children within their race. Great stories have been written about those that have taken in several children, way more than the Pitts and the mother of the new babies. Where is your resentments really coming from... REALLY. Please don't start with hobbies. We all know what a hobby is and this does not fit the dictionary meaning. To you it may but... Move to something with a little more substance. |

Psychiatrists say that there people are who have a compulsion to collect children either by birthing them or adopting them. It has been suggested that Angelina Jolie along with Mia Farrow fall into this category, both of whom roam about the world, looking for children to gather. To them children become objects. Angelina Jolie weighs about 85 pound and is still tottering around with kids hanging off of her, talking about acquiring mooore children, while Brad Pitts stands by with a manical grin on his face. Most of Mia Farrow's brood became dysfunctional. One just died of AIDS and another one stole her step father Woody Allen away from poor ol Mia. The doctors who are outraged by this woman's case, say it's obvious that she has some kind of a neurosis and that is why they are chastising the other doctors for enabling her instability and catering to her misguided whim to have 8 embryos implanted in her when she already as 6 kids and no husband. Even the woman's mother said she was obsessed with having children. And I didn't just pull the tax figure off the top of my head. The total cost of her hospital bill was quoted in the newspapers as was the information that this bill would have to be paid by tax payers unless she comes up with 3 million plus dollars. Apparently, Carey, you are so personally caught up in the maudlin idea of this dear sweet woman being persecuted because she so loves children that she has litters of them. So pass the kleenex, let this poor soul be, and praise her desire to be a mother to 14 fatherless kids. Not to mention your dubious statement claiming it has been proven "that large families do not suffer any more ills of society than a family of four". Talk about an argument with lack of substance. |

Hello All, In all fairness, from my understanding the woman had 4 embryos implanted and all 4 split, so she has four sets of twins. Her doctors had actually believed that she would have 7 kids, the 8th one was a surprise that they did not know about until the other 7 was born. But, there are reports that the "father" had told her to stop using his sperm 6 kids ago. So this woman, ignored his request and used it anyway. I agree with Cynique, something is wrong with the woman and the state should not be funding her idea of motherhood. With times as hard as they are, if this woman aint got sense enough to know that 6 is enough and her checking account is so jacked up that she, along with her 6 kids, had to live with her mother, let her figure out to support her brood that don't include tax payers money. Hell, I need my tax dollars to support me and not some addle brained broad with a Mother Hubbard complex. |

Maybe paying for the procedure is what made her broke. Anyhoo, it ain't really none of my beeswax if women want to have a bunch of kids. I have to keep reminding my self "to live and let live". As a a salt addict I have to stop pointing fingers at others who are hooked on a habit. So, I'm done with this subject. I hope... |
