While I really like Michael Steele this is a real slap in the face to all of those who looked beyond race in this election to elect who they thought had the better message.

GOP Heads Up: You are a little too late to join the bandwagon.

Unless......

This is just a way to find someone to do their dirty work and not appear racist.......

Actually it is encouraging.

I mean, it is the Republicans so they ain't about to pick anybody progressive.

They say Steele was the most moderate of all the candidates

What the heck. The Republicans weren't about to be outdone in the American dream sweepstakes. Now they got them one of those n i g g e r trophies, too.

Well, I'm not going to jump on the band wagon of calling the man names even though I have no use for the party he represents. I wish him luck. Perhaps he can change the beefy red face bigotry of the party he represents. I can understand the disillusionment black conservatives claim they have with the democrats. I don’t have a problem with that. And I don’t have problems with their alignment with certain conservative ideas. What I do find disgusting is their slavish defending of the open and shameless racist history and the whites only mindset of the white GOP constituents. If they are conservative, fine. That does not bother me as much as them attacking other blacks (and whites) for pointing out the obvious. Former black republican congressman J.C. Watts has now openly voiced his disappointment and concerns of the racism in the GOP. Faye Anderson left the party for their racist indifference and refusal to recruit or offer appealing political alternatives to black Americans. Even Newt Gingrich has openly spoke against and chastised his party for their unabashed snubbing of black people!

Now, I don’t approve of pelting Steele with Oreo cookies and posting defacing pictures of him in black face. It’s childish, unnecessary and bullshit. There is no need to resort to such ignorant behavior in order to voice your opposition or disapproval of someone. But I cannot understand how he can fiercely defend a party that is so openly hostile and indifferent to his own race. That is the major problem (as I stated) I have with so-called black republicans. People like La Shawn Barber, Alan Keyes, Ken Hamblin, Star Parker and Frances Rice constantly rail and passionately condemn white liberals (and non-conservative blacks) yet they are mute and will sheepishly look the other way when confronted with the history and ongoing racist transgressions of the republicans. WTFIST??!! This I cannot understand nor except.

Hello All,

While NTFS don't believe in name calling, I do. Now Steele is strange and an Oreo to say the least. I'm sorry, but the difference between black Republicans and other black folks is the mentality of going-out-of-the-way-to-be-stupid on racism and the place of AAs, historically and politically, in America. All of it is covered and rooted in the differences between the field slaves and the house slaves. It's a matter of recognizing that we as AA do not have all of our rights or are treated the same as whites and those blacks who long to be white, believe that they are white because they choose to believe in the falsity that whites will see us as equal due to delusions of fairness when their words and actions say otherwise. It is also fair to say that their sense of self worth depends on the white man's opinion of them, instead of getting it from themselves, history and pride in the race. In other words, self-hate.

Black Republicans claim to be people who have a problem with settling for the lesser of the 2 evils, which is what the Democratic party represents to black folks. This is a legitimate gripe and an argument could be made that Black Democrats are the ones full of "self hate" - if they would be honest enough to admit that Al Sharpton could NEVER have been elected president.

Furthermore, a conservative mind-set is not limited to black Republicans. There are many black people who are not liberal in their views but they hide under the Independent umbrella.

This newly-elected Chairman of the Republican Party could simply be a man seeking personal gain by securing a place for himself in history. He is the "tails" side of the coin that has Barak Obama as its "heads". That's Steele's prerogative. And so it goes.

Hello All,

Conservatism is not exclusively Republicans nor is it not relative to black Democrats. Actually, I think most black folks are conservative when it comes to the finance part, but when it comes to social issues thats where the road parts for Democrats and Republicans. The only major difference between the two is the stand on racism. Republicans do not believe in the social legislation or civil rights that the government ensured for all people. This is bore out in the voting records of the Republicans when it comes to social change in the US. Look how long the Republicans keep it up! Now, take for instance this idiot Micheal Steele. According to the Huffington Post, reporting from Steele's appearance on Fox News, Steele sees nothing wrong with the message or ideology of the Republican party, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/02/01/steele-the-gop-does-not-h_n_162896.html. So, it was OK for that Chip Saltman to send to folks "Barack the Magic Negro", or Karl Rove and his bullsh_t. McCain voted against the MLK, Jr. holiday. Palin went out of her way to make sure that nobody of color is in her state administration. Yeah, of course Bush provided all of the assistance that the victims of Katrina deserved after all those people aren't STILL living in those trailers! Oh, my bad, they are STILL living in those trailers aren't they. But there's nothing wrong with the message and crap from the GOP?

I'm sorry Cynique, but this falls under the category of "Keep it real, or keep it moving".

Welll, it's debatable whether most black folks are liberal when it comes to the social part. People like Bill Cosby and the following he is accruing are conservative when it comes to social issues, demanding that people shore up their parenting skills and be responsibible for their own actions, eschewing thing like Ebonics and unwed pregnancies. These conservative values are the under pinning of the black middle class who do not vote Republican but who, as individuals, adhere to the Republican philosophy of "I got mine, now you get yours".

Barak Obama and Michael Steele probably aren't that far apart. They are both centrists when it comes to the political spectrum.

”While NTFS don't believe in name calling, I do.”

Ok. Now, give a compelling argument of the advantages of calling someone names. Because calling someone names makes you feel better? Because it gives your disagreement against them more credibility? Is it not enough to intellectually expose their short comings and fallacies via facts and solid arguments? Toxic name calling is more preferable? Details please….

”Now Steele is strange and an Oreo to say the least. I'm sorry, but the difference between black Republicans and other black folks is the mentality of going-out-of-the-way-to-be-stupid on racism and……”

I agree. And I have been very clear about their failure to recognize the bigotry of their party and the national racism that still exists. As I stated before -black conservatives constantly excoriate white liberals yet they are "deliberately oblivious" to the racial ignorance and intolerance of white republicans.

”It's a matter of recognizing that we as AA do not have all of our rights or are treated the same as whites and those blacks who long to be white, believe that they are white because they choose to believe in the falsity that whites will see us……..”

No problem. But this does not justify nor give validity to silly racist name calling and throwing cookies at someone. What’s the point? To let them know you don’t like them…?????

”It is also fair to say that their sense of self worth depends on the white man's opinion of them,…. ”

I agree with this. It seems the more they vilify liberal whites and other blacks, the more they seem to believe they will earn points and acceptance with white conservatives. This I find to be completely disgusting.

”….instead of getting it from themselves, history and pride in the race. In other words, self-hate. ”

That’s not exactly true. I will give them credit for this much, virtually every black republican has achieved some level of socioeconomic success. You don’t see them as gang bangers, thuggish knuckleheads, welfare lifers, chronically unemployed, on drugs, convicted felons or caught in the revolving door of the justice system or uneducated. They all have achieved recognizable educational credibility and relative economic success and independence. They do achieve things on their own personal effort. This is not debatable.

But here is the conundrum. Given their socioeconomic success, they chronically fail to recognize the historical fact that other blacks, who came before them -built the bridges and opened doors for their success. This is where the selected memory lapses seem to take hold -respecting and recognizing the efforts of so-called white liberals and pioneering blacks who "fought against" the core mindset of the people they now defend and seek approval from. This fact is one I believe you and I can agree with.

Hello All,

Ntfs: you wrote, "Because calling someone names makes you feel better?"

Yeah. Sho do...now what? *eyebrow raised* It's an expression of my truth and my level, or lack thereof, of respect that I have for the subject, in this case Michael Steele. I don't mind throwing cookies at him, but honestly, I wouldn't throw good food at anybody I dislike so I don't see that happening. Now I might throw Oreos at him, as long as I did not buy them, but then I hate Oreo cookies. I have NEVER liked Oreo cookies. But, if somebody else bought the Oreo cookies and I was able to freeze them so that they were rock hard, I would throw the sh_t out of them at Steele. I was always partial to the Nutter Butter peanut butter cookies. Loved dipping them in milk. I love the Girl Scout peanut butter cookies too. But I wouldn't throw those at Michael Steele either.

Please...black Republicans have achieved no more or less than black Democrats. Black Democrats are not all bangers, on drugs, etc. So their socio-economic success is no more or less impressive than anyone else's.

But, for the most part, I do agree with you.
