THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING BLACK WOMAN: Small-mindedness may be bad for your health. While other racial/ethnic populations residing in western industrialized societies are continually growing (getting taller), recent studies suggest that Black women appear to be shrinking: they are not getting skinnier, but shorter. Researchers are puzzled. They speculate that perhaps it is the "bad diet" and "social environmental" issues (which remain undefined). Moreover, researchers are puzzled by the fact that despite being subject to the same diet and "social environment," Black men have not been shrinking but have been growing as is the case with other racial-ethnic groups. However, the one "social environmental" issue not considered as a factor in the shrinkage among Black women is the "bad attitude" that Black women are notorious for. Researchers point out that wealthy Black women have continued to get taller each generation (not surprisingly, wealthier Black women don't exhibit the 'tude' to the same degree that middle and lower class Black women do). Coincidentally, researchers say the shrinkage began in the late 1960's-- precisely the time when certain feminists began working hard to legitimize, codify and even celebrate the 'tude' among Black women, perhaps causing the "negative" world view to become a deeply ingrained part of the culture of a high percentage of Black women. So is hatefulness, resentment, meanness, and bad attitude hazardous for your health? YOU be the judge. Some Quotes from the news reports: "Also baffling, Adler said, is the disparity between black men and black women, "since they are subject to the same pre-birth conditions" and then grow up in the same environment." "In an age when the adult populations of most industrialized nations have grown significantly taller, the average height of black women in the U.S. has been receding, beginning with those born in the late 1960s." "The gap is "truly phenomenal," according to John Komlos, an economist and historian who has made a specialty of studying human heights. "Such a steep decline is practically unprecedented in modern U.S. history." "The reason this matters, according to Komlos, is because "height is a very good overall indicator of how well the human organism thrives in its socioeconomic environment." "His argument is bolstered by another discovery: While the heights of low- and middle-income black women are plummeting, upper-income black women are growing taller and rapidly closing the gap with their white counterparts." Some links to news stories and an abstract from the actual report follow: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-black-women-shrinkingdec25,0, 2562107.story http://www.philly.com/inquirer/health_science/weekly/20081229_Average_height_rec eding_for_black_women_in_U_S_.html ABSTRACT: Height trends since World War II are analyzed using the most recent NHANES survey released in 2006. After declining for about a generation, the height of adult white men and women began to increase among the birth cohorts of c. 1975-1986, i.e., those who reached adulthood within the past decade (1995-2006). The increase in their height overcame the prior downturn that lasted between ca. 1965 and 1974. The height gap between white and black men has increased by only 0.43 cm (0.17 in.) during past decade compared to the previous quarter century to reach 1.0 cm (0.39 in.). However, the height of black women has been actually declining absolutely by 1.42 cm (0.56 in.) and relative to that of white women. Black women of the most recent birth cohort are (at 162.3 cm, 63.9 in.) shorter than almost all Western-European women including Spain and Italy. As a consequence, a very considerable wedge has developed between black and white women's height of 1.95 cm (0.77 in.). The decline in their height is most likely related to the obesity epidemic caused by inadequate dietary balance. Black women in the age range 20-39 weigh some 9.5 kg (21.0 lb) more than their white counterparts. It appears that black females are experiencing a double jeopardy in the sense that both their increasing weight and the diminution of their physical stature are both substantial and are both probably associated with negative health consequences. http://www.nber.org/papers/w14635 |

Quoting Serenasailor: 1) "stop going to White supremacist sites and getting these whack ass articles DUMBASS!!! " Hmm. . . So the Chicago Tribune, Philadelphia Inquirer, and the National Bureau of Economic Research are "white supremacist" websites? Okay, if you say so. But it does appear that you are the "dumbass" since these articles are based on actual research that, apparently, scares you into conniptions. --------- 2) "Stupid ass nygger Nuuon!!" Based on the above show of literacy, I think we can come to a firm conclusion about which one of us is "stupid." --------- 3) "colorstruck"? I conclude you must have dark skin and an inferiority complex about it, otherwise you wouldn't have brought up the subject of skin complexion. 4) "tell your inbred White wife Moonsigns" Don't know who that is and don't care. But it does demonstrate the kind of mindless hatefulness that can twist one's genes into causing one's female offspring to shrink. |

I am wondering whether or not this conclusion based on an abundance of what is called "tude" is even worth a response. Perhaps this is one of those posts designed to incite debate? If so, as a 5 ft4 1/2 black woman will try my best, even if it kills me abstain from displaying any kind of "tude" in response to this post. Hmmm... the theory that black women coming from lower socioeconomic classes are shorter because of this "tude" thing is pretty asinine. "According to Alan Rogol, a professor of clinical pediatrics at the University of Virginia and Indianapolis, Ind.-based Riley Hospital for Children, obesity causes an acceleration of the onset of puberty in young people, and in women, "the female hormone estrogen is what leads to closure of the ends of long bones, where you grow from. If that is done more quickly on average, you are at risk for being ... smaller as an adult." http://www.kaisernetwork.org/daily_reports/rep_index.cfm?DR_ID=56278 (From the very reputable Kaier Permanente in response to the very same study by Dr. Komlos) I dont see anything about 'tude' and I would be appalled to see that word in any reputable publication. Perhaps you did not take into consideration that there was a rather tall (5 ft 11) woman being celebrated along with her husband last week. She grew up in the SS of Chicago (very elite) and her small mindedness took her all the way to Princeton Law. Way to generalize my friend, way to generalize... Perhaps when I see the word "tude" in any medial dictionary Ill indulge this theory with an after thought. |

I just find this TYPE of black male (Nuuon) sickening and pathetic. Nuuon is the guy who posted a ridiculous documentary that claimed I'm being "mind controlled" by the U.S. government and compared my life to Marti Hari's. I can't imagine where such a weak man could come from. Nuuon, you're stupifyingly "insecure." You're also no different than the White KKK Racists who claim Black people are inherently inferior. By claiming that "Black Women" (the people from which Black people) are no good---you basically make the same argument as the White racist. And as TALL and Fertile and healthy as my Black ass is---and many other Black women and girls we see in our communities on a daily basis, you're the one who is obviously hateful and has a bad attitude. SPEAKING OF ATTITUDE These Black American Sisters won't put it to you like this--- ---but I don't give a fuckk what ANY man, Black, White or Green has to say about MY HUMANITY... MY reaction to life and surviving on this earth...or MY loving or hating of ANY Human beings for whatever reasons I DEEM FIT to love or hate them. MY LOYALTY...is to my Womb. Not to Black men. You motherfukkckers betrayed us! You've betrayed us and LIED on us in every way that a woman can be betrayed and lied on. Yet you keep posting this bullshit "Herd and Control" Pimp shit. THE BLACK MAN... THE BLACK MAN... THE BLACK MAN... I wish you'd come to my house so I could bash you in the face with an Iron pipe and have my Black sons piss on your worthless played-out burnt ass for disrespecting me and your own Mama, you 2 cent roach-faced greasy Whiney CRITTER-brained mofo! And I WISH these fukckking Black American women would wake the fukckk up when it comes to WEAK-whining ass LOSERS like you. WE DON'T OWE YOU SHIT, BOY. Either be a MAN... or I'll find somebody (Black, White or Green) WHO IS. You put that Head Game on these Black American women for as long as you can...'cause the day is coming soon when NOBODY is going to care about your FAST-FADING ass. You're a DISGRACE to your mother and all of us! A fukckking DISGRACE! . |

Mocha, I am well over 6 feet tall (ask Troy). There are more tall Black women than from any other group. This article is claiming that Asian and Latina women in america are now growing taller than Black women? CAMELSHIT. I can count at least 10 other Black women younger than 45 that I personally know who are 6 feet or taller. And my oldest son is so tall and BUFF that he's constantly mistaken for 13 or 14. People just HATE Black women in this country and they constantly Scape-goat them for everything. Suze Orman is praised for being ambitious and take-charge over her career. I'm branded an opportunist and a "self-promoter." If I demand not to be called a "sex slave" and tell Connie Chung that when she calls Patty Hearst a "sex slave"--she can call me one, too---I'm automatically a bittch. I'm not difficult. I'm just disrespected. . |

To me, people can post controversial articles if they want to. We need to broaden our minds and check out different points of views. Differences of opinion is what keeps this board from turning into a bland tea party. Why do we all have to have one mentality? All of the BS about trying to exorcist intolerance seems to vanish as soon as somebody else says something others don't want to hear. Puleeze. |

I am certainly not opposed to someone coming with a different opinion to mine. I have said often on this board "if I am wrong, school me" but there is a difference between debate and someone talking about something called "tude" and this "tude" makes me short... Come On, are you serious???? It insults my intelligence for someone to tell me that my "black woman tude" makes me shorter and "shrinking" Am I in the twilight zone here? Give me a break |

I think it's an interesting concept to explore before rejecting it. This kind of article strengthens your convictions and better equips you to argue against what the author claims. Hello Am riding with Chocolate Mocha on this one. As I've said before on several occasions, we all come here for different reasons. Consequently, only the postee really knows what's behind their post. It may even be something that they are not aware of or just don't want to admit it themselves. Like Mocha, I have no problem with anothers opinion BUT I've learned to look at the motive behind their posts before I jump. I wonder why Neon would post something of that nature. Was he trying to inform use of something? If so, what and why. What was his motive and what did he get from it. If he was giving us something we could work with then I'd be cool with that. Hey, school me, I need some help. But if his motive was to incite others, his d**k is probably hard as we speak, mission accomplished. Was he pointing a finger and saying ....look at yawl "tudes"? I don't know but it smelled like it. Was his post an opinion or an insult? Also, if a man shows you what he is, believe him. It's not the first time a post like this has appeared. Was it a helpful insight into black women? Nope. Was it an opinion or a indictment of black women? Rapist and Child abusers give off signs before they are eventually caught. Their motives are hatred and suppressed pain. I wonder what the motive was behind Neon's post. I wish he'd tell us ....And soon. That's strong, I know, but so was that post. |

This article is an example of a new form of analytical research falling under the "freakonomic" umbrella. This method simply observes what a collection of random events have in common. These researchers come up with things like how all hockey stars are born in a certain month, something which allowed them as children to try out earlier for a youth team, thus giving them a leg up on other kids who had to wait because their birth dates prevented them from making the dead line to be eligible, and this delay resulted in their falling behind in developing their skills. This is the same mind-set that concluded that the crime rates fell after abortion was legalized because fewer women had babies they didn't want and couldn't discipline. |

Be aware that in MY CASE... Nuuon has stalked me for YEARS all over the internet.... ...be it videos on YOUTUBE attacking me other message boards letters to "black men's groups" calling to stop that Man-hating black bytch letters to the NOI (Nation of Islam) commending them for threatening me on Pacifica Radio (THAT'S RIGHT---THIS NUT HAS CALLED IN TO MORE THAN 10 RADIO INTERVIEWS I'VE GIVEN!) I apologize to anyone here who was taken aback or surprised by my posts --but I was really attacking him for YEARS of anti-black woman rhetoric in the guise of "Black Nationalism" and for his stalking me. I couldn't care less about this new non-nonsense from Nuuon (which in MORK from ORK's language means nonsense, I'm sure) . |

I'm interested in reviewing the actual compilation of data. In my neck of the woods, I've noticed the younger generation of girls are taller and have large feet at early age than I did around the same age. I always assumed the growth hormones in certain foods was a factor. So, if our 'tude' is affecting our height, then ladies we need to think "big" (vertically, not horizontally - LOL)! |

I’ve seen this story before. In fact, I read it when I was in Ohio last month. I really don’t know what to think of it. I do know American women as a group, are shorter than European and Australian women. That I can vouch for. But I don’t think it really means much outside of black women defying the current trend of other females growing taller. It really has no real impact since an attractive and shapely woman at 5"2' is on par (in the dating/mating game) with a woman who is 5”10’ since shorter women are not seen as less desirable than taller women. However, if you are a guy who is 5”2’…..well…we all know what that means. |

One of the few post were NTFs isn't attacking Black ppl and trying to seperate himself from the rest of us "darkies"!!! Also, Nuuon is part of a new wave of fake Black Nationalist i.e Ismeal Reed and Daryl James who are "masking" there hate and contempt for Black women under the guise of Black Nationalism. They are claiming that Black women were/are being controlled by some phantom feminist movement. Which is complete and utter bullshyt!! Black women were never allowed and still this day are not allowed to be in the White feminist movement. Even Gloria Steinem herself said in a 2005 article that she deeply regretted not allowed Black women into the feminist movement. Because "THEY" more than White women NEEDED it. Now everything is being blamed on the Black woman. From the high incarceration rates, unemployment rates, lack of Black men in school, to the fatherless homes. Personally, I wished Black women did have a feminist movement. Then you wouldn't have these stupid Negroes calling them Bytches & Hoes, publically proclaiming there are inferior, and abandoning them. I trully wish that Black women like White women had a voice. |

”One of the few post were NTFs isn't attacking Black ppl and trying to seperate himself from the rest of us "darkies"!!!” Sorry Ms. Serenasailor, I believe you have me confused with someone else. First, I don’t attack black people –I speak against stupidity and inexcusable bad behavior (race and color is irrelevant). There is a difference. Secondly, I have never had the desire nor need to separate myself from other black people. That would be very difficult to do since anyone who looks at me will not confuse me with anything other than being a black man. Now, you may not agree with what I say, but that does not mean I am attacking black people or that I desire to separate myself from being a black person. ”Black women were never allowed and still this day are not allowed to be in the White feminist movement. ” That’s not true. There are plenty of black women who are feminists and belong to the so-called movement. Yes, I am aware of some friction between some white and black feminists. But there are also polarized factions within the movement that involve white vs. white feminists. ”Even Gloria Steinem herself said in a 2005 article that she deeply regretted not allowed Black women into the feminist movement. Because "THEY" more than White women NEEDED it ” But black women were never told they could not join "because they were black". They were not actively recruited and a number of black feminist did not agree with the hard line Andrea Dorkin, Sheila Jeffreys, and Catharine MacKinnon type male hating feminists. They agreed on certain feminist issues but rejected the vicious male bashing (of black men) and the celebration of lesbianism. It’s really not that simple as them (the feminist movement) discriminating because of race. ”Now everything is being blamed on the Black woman. From the high incarceration rates, unemployment rates, lack of Black men in school, to the fatherless homes. ” Who is blaming black women for all the ills and pathology of the black underclass? Black women certainly play a role but they are not the single and sustaining major cause of the chaos in black America. Only a mindless idiot like Rev. Jessie Lee Peterson would say something that ignorant and racist (I saw him many years on the Phil Donahue show state that black women were “out of control” and were the single cause of failures in the black community –I have it documented on tape!). ”Personally, I wished Black women did have a feminist movement. Then you wouldn't have these stupid Negroes calling them Bytches & Hoes, publically proclaiming there are inferior, and abandoning them. ” Well, I certainly understand how you feel. But they are free to do so if they desired. NO ONE IS STOPPING THEM. In fact, since you seem to be so passionate about this issue, you would probably be a good spokesperson for such a movement. Why don’t you do it? And I do agree with you about those depressing images and negative stereotypes of black women as bycthes, hoes, skanks and husband less mothers. But only black women as a determined collective group can address these images. Don’t expect the media or an unfortunate number of black men to do it. ”I trully wish that Black women like White women had a voice. ” They do. But as I said, they have to exercise and implement it as a collective group. |

Like the time you said that Black women to Asian women and said that most Black women were on welfare. Or maybe like the time you blamed the black high school students in West Covina,Ca for there classmates printing racist names about them in the yearbook. Or maybe like the time you said how you have friend who don't date Black women because of hygiene or "lack thereof. Certainly, your attacks do have race and gender barriers. But I digresss. Gloria Steinem said that Black women were never allowed "as a group" to join the feminist movement. And she also stated that many Black women till this very day are skeptical of it because it is seem as a White middle class woman's movement. Although there are Black feminist. There were never welcomed into the larger White feminist movement. So many Black women i.e Bell Hooks and Alice Walker started there own. And although some of them now belong to the White feminist movement there were not welcomed in the past. AND YES!! Many noted Black male activist i.e Darryl James(Who writes for Eurweb) Ishmael Reed and the writer for Village News(a popular London based Black Nationalist site) among others do blame the "phantom" Black feminist for the "ills" in the Black community. |

But what does that have to do with me? I NEVER SAID IT! And just in case you didn’t know –I am not responsible for the actions, thoughts, beliefs or opinions of other adults. Got that…??!! ”Certainly, your attacks do have race and gender barriers. ” Uh huh, and you have failed to produce one in which I made a so-called strident derogatory attack based solely on race or gender. Moving on….. ”But I digresss. ” After that failed attempt, you should. Thank you……. ”Gloria Steinem said that Black women were never allowed "as a group" to join the feminist movement. And she also stated that many Black women till this very day are skeptical of it because it is seem as a White middle class woman's movement. ” I stated the facts concerning black and white feminists. They are entitled to their opinions. I stated mine and I clearly stated black women have contributed to the problem but they are not the lone participants nor the exclusive driving force behind it. "Perhaps this is one of those posts designed to incite debate? If so, as a 5 ft4 1/2 black woman will try my best, even if it kills me abstain from displaying any kind of "tude" in response to this post. Hmmm... the theory that black women coming from lower socioeconomic classes are shorter because of this "tude" thing is pretty asinine." mocha, seriously read the original article..i read that article long before this idiot put it on thumperscorner. it doesnt say a thing about black womens attitude, that liar NUON added that part. this should tell people he is not to be trusted when it comes to anything. |
