Yeah, Obama was great but how about that inaugural parade! I've always loved parades since I was a liiiiittle girl! What really sent chills down my spine watching today's procession was when the Military units would strut by, toting their rifles on their shoulders, marching in perfect step, eyes left, each band playing its loyalty song, honoring the president with a brief flourish of "Hail to the Chief" as they passed the reviewing stand, - The Army, The Navy, The Marines, The Air Force, The Coast Guard, West Point and Annapolis, - a general or admiral from each one of these services stepping to the side of their new Commander-in-Chief, saluting the flag in his stead. And the 2 thousand-strong precision marching cadets who brought up the rear of the parade were an awesome sight; even Michelle was impressed, giving them a thumbs up. Of course "we" had to inject our flavor into the mix, as the sistas from the black high schools and colleges switched along, doing their Beyonce walk, shaking their booties, while Michelle and Obama tried not to wince. And 3 Cheers for Reverend Lowry's benediction which made reference to that "black, brown, yellow, red, and white" litany people of my generation used to say, but which can now be put on the back burner. It was a great day for the USA and for the descendants of those whose slave-labor built the White House! |

I loved the parade, too, Cynique. I don't think I've ever seen so many young black people included in an inauguaral parade and I really enjoyed seeing those sisters TWISTING down the boulevard full of SASSY hip-swinging and SO MANY handsome black men looking dignified and "uniformed." MY NIGHT WAS MADE HOWEVER...by Beyonce. That girl brought tears to my eyes with her beautifully "sincere" and haunting rendition of "At Last" for Obama and Michelle's "first dance." I loved watching Pres. Obama and Michelle dance--I wanted to see MORE of them doing that (and act less gawky). But I will always love Beyonce for putting a literal flame under their asses. That girl is BAD. You just GO Beyonce!!!!! **I also got a kick out of seeing the Pres. & 1st Lady marching down Pennsylvania Ave on foot earlier in the day. WONDERFUL and Symbolic! I do hate that they never showed up Grandma Sara from Kenya; though she was supposedly there at the swearing in AND the parade and is now asleep in the White House (at age 86--her first time EVER sleeping in a western style bldg.) . |

I loved the parade, too. Or, I should say I would have loved the parade if only the CNN commentators could have stopped gushing about All the Black Everywhere (and trying to get every Black Name known to man on air) for me to see and hear it. If anyone has any suggestions where I might see a recap of the parade that actually talked about who was marching, I'd appreciate it. I loved, loved, loved Rev Lowery's benediction. It was classic, one for the ages. Regarding Beyonce, I have never been a fan and at first turned my nose up at the choice of her for their first dance. But I have to admit that I was impressed with her rendition. Maybe it was because she seemed to be really moved by singing it, on that occasion, in front of them. |

C-Span2 didn't have any commentary. It just kept the camera trained on the marchers, occasionally cutting away to get reactions from the President and his entourage. |

Hello I can't say rather or not Beyonce's expressions were real or not. And for the most part I don't care. I do know that she's had plenty of time to get into character while singing the song. It's the same song that she sang in the movie, Cadilac Records. The song moved me in the movie and it did the same yesterday. Yes, I too Tripple-Loved Rev Lowery's benediction. He brought it home! |
