Hello All,

I have tried so hard to keep my cynical self in check concerning the inauguration Tuesday. It aint workin for sh_t! Although I started out last year as a Hilary Clinton supporter, I gradually moved over to the Obama team. I have never, since I've been legal age to vote, been so plugged into a candidate before, or plugged into our political system. Now, because of Obama (I don't want to give him too much credit because I fell for Michelle first) I am still plugged in. Isn't that odd. Its strange as hell. Now CSPAN is a viable channel on my favorite channel list. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that there was TWO CSPAN channels. It's like I'm looking at our government for the very first time and I'm stunned by it. I did not know that there was all of those cabinet positions. I did not know that the vice president, the first lady and the second has chiefs of staff. I did not that there was such a big deal about the bibles used for the swearing in, BTW Obama will be sworn in on the same bible that Lincoln was sworn in.

Now, I want to go back to DC and go the the National Mall and look at all that stuff again. I know I will not look at them the same as I did before. I guess now I feel included.

Does an Obama presidency mean the end of racism? Why, hell no! But to say that it does not put a new wrinkle in the sheet would be lying, but what the wrinkle is or how it will change things, only time will tell. I am somewhat hopeful.

I'm getting up early tomorrow morning and going to the store to pick up a few things so I can be back for that mammoth concert. I'm going to sit in my weekend room and watch on my LCD TV in HD sound and sit there like a hog in mud. Then Monday night when I get home. I'm going to fry up some chicken wings, make some potato salad and bake beans, and sit in front of the TV all day Tuesday. Oh yeah, I've asked for it off. I'm a laugh a little, probably tear up a little and just be hopeful. Wednesday, I want Obama to get to work and help fix this sh_t we're in.

Hey Thump

I hear you. I am also gonna spend the whole day, Tuesday in front of the television. I can't remember ever getting so hyped up about the swearing in or the race to get there as I was this time around. The last time we went to DC was a great learning experience and even though I felt a slight twinge of the past while we toured the many monuments and stared at the White House, the next time around I know I will view it all with a different prospective. Being prior military and a baby civil rights advocate, it has become clear that the white bread mentality I had of the whole political arena seems a little less hopeless and a lot more positive for the growth of America as a whole. Obama is not the cure all, but he is sure a good dose of medicine.

Racism has not and more than likely never will die, but it has taken a back seat for once in the minds of the people on a whole. Money and surviving, jaded as it is, seems to have softened the hearts of many who now seek more justice for all the corruption heaped upon them throughout the years, regardless of the color of ones skin.

The first presidential inauguration I ever watched on TV was when Dwight D. Eisenhower was sworn in after defeating my boy, Adlai E. Stevenson, the honorable governor from the great state of Illinois who ran against "IKE".

Little did I know that as a fresh faced, clear-eyed young woman hearing the distant voices of dissent growing in volume as the civil rights movement was gathering steam, that I would one day be able to sit in front of my TV and watch an African American take the oath of office for America's presidency.

Awesome. I wouldn't miss it for the world!

Hello All,

As I lie in bed and reflect on the history making day, I am full. As Barack Obama was sworn in, I couldn’t help but to get a little emotional. Not only did my heart recall loved ones gone who would have loved to experience the moment many of us never thought would happen, I was luxuriating in the feeling of fullness, satisfaction and inclusion. In that moment did I KNOW that I was an American citizen. Now, I can fly the American flag with a new found sense of national pride. Despite the fact that I voted for Obama, and others came together to elect Obama for president. I owe Obama one. He gave me a country. Now finally, I can drop my bags, take off my shoes, and make myself to home.
