You need look no further than what goes on in your own towns and cities to gain insight into Illinois' scandal. Blagoevich's corrupt pay-to-play policies are a microcosm of American politics. Once the governor got caught on tape by the Feds, all of his colleagues turned on him like a pack of wolves. His arrogance and narcissicism helped to do him in. He is in now in denial and thinks he has a chance to beat the rap but he has alienated too many people and disgraced the State, and impeachment proceedings are in the works. The people of Illinois are amazed at the blatant corruption of their governor, unlike his fellow legislators who are glad he's been exposed as they all wrap themselves in respectibility, determined to make an example of this pariah |

Do you think Jesse Jackson, Jr. has completely lost his opportunity to become the Jr. Senator from the great state of Illinois? Is it deserved. |

Jesse Jackson, Jr. or "triple J" as he is known in some circles, has managed to distance himself from the shadow of his father and has even, on occasion, publicly disagreed with him. Young Jesse appears to be an earnest intelligent young man who, as a state representative, has acquired a decent resume. Whether or not he, personally, had plans to join the bidding for Obama's job remains a gray area because he has continued to maintain that if a contingency of supporters were planning to strike a deal with Blagojevich, they were doing it on their own. I think that if an open election was held to fill Obama's senate seat, Jackson would do fairly well in Chicago's Cook county. But he would encounter trouble with the downstate voters who have their own favorites among what would undoubtedly be a crowded field of aspirants. If Illinois' Lt. Governor is designated to be the one to appoint Obama's replacement, Jesse, Jr., would probably not make the cut. How about you, Troy? What are your sentiments about newcomer Caroline Kennedy filling Hillary's senate seat? |

So many self-serving groups are now trying to take out Blagojevich that legal technicalities are hampering the process. He has hired a crack dream team of lawyers and it looks like it's going to turn into one big mess, complicated by how Blagojevich's foes are just as unpopular as he is and this includes the over zealous feds who may have overstepped their authority by leaking what they found out from wiretapping the governor's phone lines. In the meantime, challenges are being issued in regard to whether the governmor has the authority to sign the bills that the State needs to function. It's terrible. |

Nice to get this inside scoop, Cynique. I have long had very high hopes of JJJ. Whatever the outcome of this particular case, I hope that he is able to recover and make the contributions to society that I know he has the ability to accomplish. (And of course, I certainly hope he survives personally and emotionally as well.) As a side note, I know much has been made of Chicago as an oft-times corrupt political town--and certainly the facts bear this out. But I think that what this governor did was certainly not unique in the political world--he just happened to be caught on tape. |

Burris is not exactly a paragon of virtue. There are many other qualified Illinois Blacks with more impressive resumes than this ego-maniac with a losing record when it comes to public office and who has erected a huge granite monument of praise to himself overlooking a grave site that he has already purchased. Burris considers himself a chosen man who claims Abraham Lincoln has spoken to him, and he is revelling in all of the attention and publicity this situation is heaping upon him. |

You full of it, chrishayden. Why should God bless a mercenary crook like Rod Blagojevich? How can you condemn Bill and Hillary Clinton for all you claim they're guilty of and then praise a corrupt devious political hack like Blagojevich? And the fact that Burris is from the same home town as you is reason enough to view this self-serving opportunist with a jaundiced eye. |
