In a threshing floor of ghetto concrete, A Sunday skipping circle afternoon Church around a Woolworth jump rope backbeat Blessed was the world within it’s room A gospel was around their up-down motion A word of depth, humanity, love and thought A testimony of bonding and devotion A scripture that they learned and felt and tought Here in this jump rope circle was their solace From men who aged them far before their time And fate that left them in this project furnace And gave them pain to great for verse or rhyme But if they burnt your ropes from hull to strand May you jump together in caanan land | ||
