The year I was born, the country was immersed in the Great Depression, its citizens numbed with despair while a lame duck president stood at the helm of a sinking ship, scorned and abandoned. But emerging from the abyss came a leader born to the ranks of wealth and privilege, crippled by the scourge of polio, his body broken but his head unbowed. In the midst of the gloom, the newly-elected Franklin Delano Roosevelt appeared on the scene, reaching out to the huddled masses waiting to be reassured, convincing them that "the only thing they had to fear was fear itself," words which ushered in a new era and a New Deal that in the ensuing months would get the country back on track. How fortunate I am to have been able to vote in my 12th presidential election, and to witness the anointment of another president-elect. Representing the audacity of hope, rising from the shambles of economic recession, another Harvard man, bruised but not scarred by the affliction of racism, comes forth voicing the "yes, we can" mantra of change, standing tall and cloaked in the mantel woven by the foundling fathers. A miracle! God bless President Barak Obama and God bless America. |

Amen Cynique, AMEN!!!! I am glad to see another person still awake. I cant sleep!!!! it is 3:14, my 7 year old is still awake drawing pictures of Obama, My mother is still awake in Florida watching CNN & MSNBC, this is amazing. I am still in shock. I brought the occasion in at the NAACP headquarters... I know the NAACP has had its ups and downs but realize this, when Obama is sworn in, it will be the same year that the organization will celebrate its centennial.... Think about it, the stars are in alignment for such a time as this. I am so proud of this country right now I cant stand it.... GOBAMA, God Bless! |

By the way, the Obama Family looked off the hook. The children looked great, well groomed, not shy at all waving to the crowd and Madame Michelle looked fierce, hair, make up, clothes.... Sorry for sounding superficial but they are now the first family, these things matter now and they pulled it off with flying colors! |

Cynique - I've always loved reading your posts! Mochascafe - I couldn't agree with you more! I think their children are adorable & have such vibrant personalities, and I can't wait for Michelle to step-in with grace - she's so intelligent, refined and elegant! They looked beautiful! |

Nice post Ms. Cynique. This is indeed an historical event. The American people have spoken. The Bush administration was so bad, I know of three Republicans who previously voted for Bush flipped and voted for Obama. I talked to friend of mine who is a white Republican. She called me from Virginia in tears, crying in joy. She was so happy. She, like a number of other Republicans, had had enough. It was time for change. But after all the hoopla and hysteria dies down, the detractors and haters will be waiting in the shadows, plotting and planning to discredit and sabotage everything this man does. THE HATERS ARE STLL HERE AND THEY ARE NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS EMBARRASSING BONE CRUSHING DEFEAT GACEFULLY. Time will bare his out. But the good thing is Sarah Palin will being taking her unqualified-divisive-intolerant-ignorant ass back to Alaska! THAT IS PROBABLY THE BEST THING OUTSIDE OF BEING OBAMA BEING ELECTED THAT I RELISH!!! |

Right, Serenasimpleton. I am 232 years old. At least make your lame attempts at humor plausible. |
