But once again the pendulum is gradually swinging in another direction. There seems to be a subtle ground swell among a broad segment of the sisterhood of white women, many of whom think Sarah Palin is being unfairly targeted by "the media". With things getting down to the wire, race and gender are starting to creep into the equation. Because being such an airhead makes her vulnerable, Palin with her plaintive, high-pitched nasal whine inspires the sympathy of those who think white women are the goddesses of the world and should be cherished and pampered. That's why when Hillary Clinton dropped her tough facade and teared up, she struck a chord with other white women. Never under-estimate the power of empathy. Just one more reason why I remain nervous about the outcome of this contest which pits common sense against blind loyalty. |
