Tomorrow I'm going to ride my bike from NYC to Philly; for no particular reason other than it is something I do from time to time. This year I'm going to have all sorts of technology GPS, iphone, heart monitor, bike computer etc. I'm also going to "Twitter" my location during my NYC to Philly bike ride. If you are interested you can monitor my progress via twitter http://twitter.com/aalbc if you already use twitter to can just "follow me" to monitor my progess. I signed up for twitter some time ago, and never really used it. So I figured this would be a cool way to get started. Peace |

I'm impressed that you would embark on such a trek, Troy. You have the true spirit of adventure! I'm motivated to bestir myself from my semi-vegetative state long enough to salute you! I "glory in your spunk", Bro! |

Thanks Cynique, Lili Below is the path I rode. My path was captured by a small bike mounted computer. It was a very hilly by picturesque route. As a side bar as I rode through secluded roads, beautiful passes and quaint little main streets. I realized how amazingly fortunate some people are. I honestly stopped seeing Black people after I crossed the George Washington Bridge. I rode past mansions surrounded by acres of lush lawns, golf courses with groups of seemingly wealthy folks with ad even greater amount of free time. There were families strolling down main streets lines with expensive cars (it seemed everyone had an SUV). Follks were hot air balloning, picking pumpkins, horsebacking, going to fairs having a great time. I stopped to take a photo of one scene that was so strking that I risked depleting the little battery life I had left on my cell phone to capture the shot; This Iphone shot does not really do the scene justice. While I was taking the photo the guy on the trackor cut the engine and asking me where I was from, not in a treatening way I could tell he was simply curious. I told him I was from NYC. He said he lives there too, but added, "you have to have a place to get away so that you don't go crazy". I thought to myself -- amen to that. I also wondered if he had any clue how lucky he was. Most people I know struggle to make it in NYC and don;t have the opportunity to escape for a long weekend to their country estate. It really was hard to image that we are fighting wars on two fronts and are dealing with a major global financial crisis. I even thought about how lucky I am to have the health, free time, and resources to embark on a ride like this -- just for the heck of it. I realized that I'm truly blessed too. Though I would not mind having a country home somewhere (smile). |

There does seem to be an alternate idyllic world of affluence that the privileged fall heir to while the rest of us poor schmucks plod along depending upon serendipity to randomly favor us with a fleeting moment of enjoyment. |

I don't know Cynique. I believe most of the "privileges" that the old man has can be found by all. Troy had some spare time and chose to ride his bike and found a place of comfort. Most can do the same. I think it depends on what one is looking for. A bike for instance doesn't cost much. Now of course a person might not be able to afford a country home but is there really peace inside the home, who knows. Many simply wait for thangs to fall in place. Nothing falls in place. You have to be looking for something positive to gain a serendipitous reward. What is "poor", I think it starts in the mind. A bandrupted mind and an empty soul is "poor". |

I said there is an alternate "affluent" world. If you're poor you are not affluent. You are not living in comfortable homes on tree-lined streets with manicured lawns, and SUVS parked in your driveways nor are you inhabiting rolling green acres of farmland. If you're a working stiff, you don't have a lot of leisure time to go biking over hill and dale. Serendipity is what enriches you - a spontaneous hiatus that provides you with a chance to explore whatever it is that fulfills you. |

I disagree with your last sentence! It may be what you THINK it is but it does not speak to the word. |

What word are you talking about? You always assume people can read your mind and you never make yourself clear to me. |
