I love history. I have a fairly decent library of videos and books about history and biographies. The majority covers war history, black American history, music and art. And you? |

Not so much so but I have taken up more of an interest lately in ancient Roman, Hebrew, and Judean history and how it relates to early African American history so I would be very interested in any direction that you might point me. |

WWI and after. As of late, I have taken an interest in the Civil War. Just went through the Ken Burns PBS series and Shelby Footes (recognized authority on the Civil War) writings. My favorite writers for war history are William L. Shirer (I have everything he has written) Alan Bullock and John Toland. There are three volumes of world history that covers the 20th century by Martin Gilbert. And if you want an overview of American history, try Paul Johnsons, "A History of the American People". |

I'm sure you have Ms. Cynique. I finally committed myself to finishing the John Hope Franklin bio. We talked about it before. It is amazing to read the first hand experiences he had with Jim Crow and outright in yo face racism in the 1930's and 40's. It's sad to know there is a generation of blacks who are historically clueless as to what black people actually endured. |

Living up North, raised in a small town, I was fortunate enough to have been spared blatant racism and Jim Crowism. I just had to deal with the subtle forms they took within an integrated environment wherein not rockin the boat, kept the beast at bay. If we have a Depression, it will be nothing new to me. As a child, I was around for the one back in the 1930s. The upcoming election will be the 11th time I've voted for a president. The situation in Iraq is just another conflict to me, having lived through WWII, the Korean, Vietnam, and Gulf wars, not to mention the civil rights movement, the social revolution and the assassinations of so many of our leaders In the mean time, I've re-cyled myself, and am now going through the youth of my dotage, living proof that age is just a number. |

perhaps, the older generations should do a better job at teaching the younger generations about their heritage...the pains and joys of the past! |

I haven't found the younger generation to be particularly interested in hearing about "way back when". BTW, how did you like "The Palace Counsel", Yukio? |
