What kind of change do the Republicans want? The kind that will remove the word "change" from the dictionary. It’s just amazing how much Republicans (and especially far rightwing Republicans) fear their own destiny. The country is changing and they don’t seem to want to be a part of that change. It’s a party that has relied on the fear of change and fright of diversity to “scare the wits” out of the average (white) voter, whether educated or not. Some might say, it’s a pure “sucker play” by politically distraught (Republican) makebelievers. When the world looked at the crowd that attended the Democratic Presidential Convention, it saw a broad multiracial, multiethnic, multicultural and multi-gender cross-section of the U.S. (and the world) as it is today. But when the focus turned to the Republican Presidential Convention, it saw nothing but a virtual sea of beet-red foaming-at-the-mouth white faces surrounding tiny specks of (people of) color which in order to even be noticed, had to be judiciously zoomed in on by a distracted broadcast room editor. One continues to get the impression that the Republican Party is really the champion of only (privileged) white America and white American values, as if no other group existed anywhere else on the planet. In today’s diverse and globally connected society, the party has yet to recognize and convey that it wants to change, can change, needs to change and must change in order to survive the change that is both needed and is “definitely” coming; change over which it has absolutely no control. Reflecting on last night’s mock-fest of Obama & Company, the Republicans in truth actually turned off the very people they were attempting to court (i.e., conservative Democrats, independents, moderate Republicans, etc.) and in doing so, inadvertently gave the Democrats a real gift. By recklessly trying to punitively marginalize Barack Obama and the vast and inclusive “Army of All” that he represents, the Republicans have further isolated themselves from those who need change the most; the needy, the open-minded and the willing. Even more puzzling is the mere thought that Sarah Palin is actually a pragmatic hard-nosed executionist who can and will engage the likes of Hu Jintao, Kim Jung Il and so forth. To these guys, being a deceptive steely-eyed hockey mom just won’t cut it. From her perspective, Barack Obama is but a mere lightweight, an opportunistic nobody who just happened to get a first rate Ivy League education, was accidentally elected to the U.S. Senate, and basically stumbled upon the Democratic Presidential Nomination while on his way to an upscale cocktail party, sans Fred Thompson’s help. Well, there’s danger lurking in the tall grass. Cockiness is normal and usually understandable, but recklessness is foolish. If she thinks for one minute that those Miss America looks are going to allow her to waltz unscathed across the political minefield that awaits her, then she’s got another thing coming. For some unknown reason or another, she’s been easily duped (by the Insane McCain Camp) into a political fight-to-the-death with a blindfold on. Gender aside, she may think that she can go head-to-head with Toe-To-Toe Joe and trounce him round-for-round, but she’s going to quickly find out that Joe is by no means a Karl Rove-targeted (blowhard doofus) “executive experience-deprived” onlooker. No…at this moment, Barack Obama and Joe Biden aren’t following the Oregon Trail while slowpoking and acting coy, and they’re definitely not shaking in their boots. They’re actually salivating at the thought that “Heathens at the Gate” will soon be playing in their neighborhood. Sarah, enjoy the view “up there” while it lasts and don’t underestimate your opponents. Given your speech last night, if you had any sense, you’d spend it. By the way, since old John can’t raise his arms over his head anymore (bless his POW-touting heart), he’s going to need you to give him a boost so he can see over those gates. However and as unfortunate as it may be, when he gazes out over the landscape to get a glimpse (from house number seven) of what lies ahead, he’s going to turn and look down over his shoulder at you and say, “tomorrow, I’m enrolling in Anger Management 101”. |

Not to mention the fact that he raped the obama camps message of change to no end last night and then tried to justify doing so by saying something like "let's not argue about who said what first, let's just take the best of both parties..." blah blah blah. The republicans have NO game plan and are grasping at every straw in the pile. When has any candidate for VP released pics of themselve in a 2 piece bikini toting a rifle and retained the dignity and respect of public office? She is trying to (if she hasn't already) set the women's movement back 100 years, with the help of Elmer Fudd McCain. I'm amazed that he finally came close to telling the truth about his "war hero" status last night. The truth of the matter is, the Viet Cong broke him and he spilled his guts At least he publicly admitted that they broke him. He is no more of a hero than the millions of other soldiers who are put in harms way, being shot at and mutilated, and killed 24-7 each and every single day! |

The Republicans have a secret weapon--the utter stupidity and gullibility of the Right. If this stuff wasn't working they wouldn't be putting it out. |

Nice post. I agree. Your observation about a dominate sea of white faces is objective and accurate. No doubt. As I've said before, I never could understand where these confused Negroes who are sprinkled amongst what looks like an Ole Miss vs Alabama pep rally of 1960. And these Jesse Lee Peterson clones appear to be quite comfortable and delighted at being maids and shoe shine boys for their white conservative masters. Can anyone explain this? Where is Mzuri....???? |

Mzuri is probably the one who gave my unflattering post about Sarah Palin one star. |
