What's up with America's Olympic track teams?? I been waiting for the relays all week long, and what happens? Both the male and female runners became ineligible because of their inability to pass the baton without dropping it! I couldn't believe it! Something as crucial as this, and these black kids become perfect examples of being in the right place at the right time and not being ready! They apparently didn't concentrate enough to execute this critical maneuver so all of their physical talents went for naught. Hope these lapses and the other 2 black runners being disqualified for lane violations aren't signs of things to come - that Obama won't lose the presidential race because of inexcusable mistakes. |

There is a logical explanation: They all run on different teams and each team has its own well practiced, well drilled hand off method. Also, each one of them is usually the fastest person on his or her team and is used to anchoring. They don't get enough time to work together on that. C'est la vie. Could you do better, maybe? Hope these lapses and the other 2 black runners being disqualified for lane violations aren't signs of things to come - that Obama won't lose the presidential race because of inexcusable mistakes. (It will be bad strategy choices. He should have somebody black on his team to put that spin on it--white folks have difficulty admitting how racist their people are. A black person would have never let him act elitist, or act like he had it made, or say some things (like the "guns and bitterness" comment. |

Logical, hell. The same is true of all the other assembled teams and their runners didn't drop their batons. And while lolling around, waiting for the relay events, these athletes had nothing but time to practice. And it's not like there are a lot of different way to pass a baton. The procedure is pretty much a standard one. All that was necessary was for them to get it down pat. What's logical is that of course I couldn't have done better. I don't run track. |

Hello, Actually, passing the baton is a fundamental that the runners should have down pat a long time ago, no matter what team they ran for before. I'm with Cynique. I'll trump this one up as NBA players should be able to hit all of their free throw shots. |

I don't know Thump, a baton pass changes between different runners. Also it depends on the grip or hand position of the baton of the oncoming runners. I think someone mentioned each athelets position within the race, some never pass the baton and some never recieve it. It gets more complicated because each new runner is runing at a different speed upon approach. Then, a 100 Meter Man may have never taken the baton on a curve. Some coaches teach looking back at the baton, others teach sound. Some even tell the approached runner to put his hand in a stable position and not reach for the baton. Actually it's a pretty complicated mix when you consider all the factors. Now throw in the hype and excitment of the biggest show on earth. Our Olympic Track and Field team doesn't really practice together as much as other countries, plus they are not coached by the same individual. It's really not like riding a bike, nothing stays the same. I think the USA Basketball Team can put on slippers and beat their next foe. Gashol, the center for Spain played with Kobe on the Lakers, he was a bust in the NBA finals and now he doesn't even have Kobe. I will be surprised if it's much of a match. I am staying up tonight, I think the game comes on at 1 am. The USA 116- Spain 89. Oh Lawd, I hope I didn't stick my foot in my mouth..... AGAIN! |
