The information about this video was emailed to me along with the following press release: Now, Here is the CALL TO ACTION! Media Contact: Project Islamic HOPE 323.350.1065 EVENT: Press Conference WHERE: Verizon Store located at 3829 S. Crenshaw Blvd. Los Angeles CA 90018 WHEN: Monday, July 7 2008 TIME: 11:00am (Pacific Time) Civil rights activist Najee Ali, Executive Director of Project Islamic HOPE, and a coalition of civil rights organizations are calling for Lowell C. McAdam - who is President and CEO of Verizon Wireless - to withdraw the Verizon Wireless contract and distribution deal with Loren Feldman, President of 1938 media. "Feldman has a history of using the Internet to promote racism and demeaning and negative racial stereotypes against African Americans on his Internet site. He is responsible for and appears in what he calls "TechNigga." This clip on his [ficticious] website “TechNigga” is racist and demeaning to Africans Americans and women. The Verizon [Wireless] distribution deal with Feldman sends a horrible message that Verizon seeks to partner with racists like Feldman and that Verizon and CEO McAdam find nothing offensive with TechNigga. [McAdam] needs to demonstrate that Verizon understands they should demonstrate corporate responsibility and will not tolerate racism, or bigotry. Our community nationwide should contact Lowell C. McAdam and let him know that you will boycott Verizon unless this distribution with Feldman is severed. There are plans for an upcoming national day of protest against Verizon stores nationwide if our calls for a meeting and our demands are not met," stated Ali. Press Conference Sponsors: Project Islamic HOPE National Action Network (Rev K. W. Tulloss, President LA Chapter) L.A. Humanity Foundation (Melvin Snell, CEO) Sister Tammy Lee (Sister Lee Media Group) Industry Ears (Paul Porter) |

Stupid, yeah, I agree. But what can ya do? It's a free country and people are free to post anything they want as long as it does not directly affect national security (e.g. how to make a nuclear bomb in ten easy steps), threaten the president of the US or call for physical violence and insurrection, what happens, happens.....*Shrugs*... |

I know this will piss some folks off but I have a few issues with this whole situation. 1938media is getting a ton of free publicity with these press conferences, press releases, etc. Having viewed the video and finding it mildly humorous. I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would devote an ounce of energy fighting verizon guys given the crap that is already being circulated in the media or in light of the real problems in education, incarceration rates, the ecconomy... It is a good thing the internet is not "owned" by anyone. Folks would be spending all of their time writing letters, protesting or suing whoever owned it just to get them to stop the distribution of something they did not like. When is this bull shit ever gonna end? |

Ah, this is the rub. What is racist? Is Lenny Bruce's "" routine racist? How about rap videos? Is Dick Gregory racist? What about The Little Rascals? How about the Evening News? Of course, in addition to not stepping on anybody's Constitutional Rights--well most anybody. If it was up to me Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly would be getting waterboarded in Guantanamo Bay---I will not state whether or not anybody who is not offended should or should not protest. |

Of course people should protest write letter when offended. I just think, in this case, it is a colossal waste of time. Come on; we've said things that anyone could construe as being even more "racist". I wish some white folks would write some press releases about this discussion boards and raise our profile -- probably end up a with a reality TV show or something. |

"Having viewed the video and finding it mildly humorous. Agreed. It is a waste of time IMO. But this is America, not North Korea, the Sudan, Burma or Mozambique. You are free to post anything you want as long as it does not cross certain lines (e.g. advocating shooting the POTUS). "It is a good thing the internet is not "owned" by anyone. Folks would be spending all of their time writing letters, protesting or suing whoever owned it just to get them to stop the distribution of something they did not like." Good point. Although I don't agree with a lot of things posted on the internet, people are free to do what they want. I don't agree with censoring comments or individuals that I happen to disagree with. That is why I thought the entire Imus debacle was bullshit. "When is this bull shit ever gonna end?" Sigh....it's not. The politically correct nannyologists will continue to whine, complain and belly ache every time someone says or does something that offends their tissue thin skin. |
