Well, chrishayden, if Blacks claim the right to distance themselves from the bad element among us, then we forfeit the right to take pride in and identify with the accomplishments of the good examples among us. All of the rhetoric to the contrary cannot erase the biological and history connection Blacks have with each other as a people.
Color blindness is a myth and no matter how we view ourselves as individuals, we have no control over how others group us together, and we are at the mercy of their discretion.
All Blacks can do is to look at another Black who we find reprehensible and consider that there, for the grace of different circumstance, go I.
And it's not as if other ethnic groups are not subjected to this same criteria. |

Chris, the "I" I'm talking about not just about socio-economic constructs.
Consider; doing what is best for ourselves, our families, Black people, or humanity are not inconsistent actions -- not even inconsistent with capitalism as you imply.
The "Them", really, is just an extension of the "I".
You never hear white folks getting upset about Hitler, Imus, etc. Are you serious? The German Govt have been bending over backwords trying to ensure the legacy of Hitler does not taint the German people.
Imus is only in trouble because of white people fear that Imus' comments will reflect poorly on them. Do you seriously think Imus' lastest comment warranted any attention?

Yvettep, of course. Even the question of being our "Brother's keeper" comes from Cain and Able. Of course the idea and activity predates the Bible.
ABM, we should have "drop squads" deal with the worst of these brothers.
The offenders would recieve ample warning, but if they persisted then they'd get got. Simple.
Short of that, there really is nothing we can do.
I know that sounds extreme, but I'm not exactly liking were we are and where we are headed. |

Okay okay OKAY, I will not laugh at another one of Chris's ridiculiously funny jokes.....unless they are funny. Some of the time I don't agree with what he's saying just like I can assume he doesn't agree with me but when it's funny I laugh. We don't agree on the Imus thang, his point blank opinions are bold and some I can't ride with but as men, I think we've found the freedom to disagree and not be affraid to do that....with anyone! As I, Chris can get stupid, he knows it, it appears he feeds on it, but in doing so sometimes he's funny and witty.
