Believe it or not, I have a friend who lives in Oakland and is interested in doing this. She is currently working on a blog about raising urban chickens. I was stunned when she told me. She told me she always wanted to do this and is aggressively researching the possibility. She owns her own home and has the back yard space to do it. We'll see...... |

Back in the day I used to wake up, in the 50's to roosters crowing in the Ville neighborhood right in the middle of St. Louis. These chickens were not kept as pets-- My grandparents in Centralia Illinois used to keep chickens. Whenever they wanted one for dinner Grandma used to go out, select one, grab it by the neck, twirl it, break it, it would hop around for a while, and then she'd clean it, pluck it, and fry it up. Tasted good. My grandparents here in St. Louis used to keep pigeons. Yeah, they'd eat those muthas. Called em squab. With prices rising, we gonna have to think about going back to the old landmark... |

Hey Chris, remember that part in one of those dumb Rocky movies when his coach told him to chase the chicken to build his speed and quickness...well, they even tried to steal that from us. Chickens in the yard ain't never been new. There's nothing like fresh yard bird...I mean FRESH! |
