The Black Entertainment Television Network was created to bring authentic representations of African-Americans to cable television. After a couple of decades, however, it finds itself under intense criticism for pandering to the lowest possible tastes. A lot of African-Americans have given up on BET and are turning to other channels that have black shows. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=90366304&ft=1&f=1015 BTW, I think we have discussed the Boondocks parody of BET discussed in the piece here before. |

F*ck the Boondocks. How dare Aaron McGruder try to criticize B.E.T with his own animated version of B.E.T. Aaron McGruder is an A**hole. |

You have the right attitude to BET. Now if we could just wean you from National Putrid Radio you would be on the Pathway to Righteousness. BET is not owned by black people. Anybody who expects it to project positive, thoughtful stuff is living in a fantasy world. Furthermore, only you pointy headed black intellectuals are turning away from it. Most of the people I know like it just fine--and these are not hoodrats or bums but job holding respectible members of the so called Black Middle Class (they dig bootyshakin videos and hiphop music) The black literati need to get off the pot and create their own network if they are displeased--but they can't even put together a blacktalk radio station in areas with large black populations because NOBODY WANTS TO LISTEN TO IT. If people liked culture Shakespeare would be on every channel--but he ain't is he? He's on PBS right after Monty Python. We need to realize something This is America. |

MTV, VH1 and BET are the triumvirate of scientifically advancing and aggressively promulgating Negro minstrelsy and buffoonery. It's comforting to know there are some blacks who reject and have grown weary of the mindless high impact coonery these channels are committed to. |

Hold up Miss Cryptonite.....oh, thank you for the laugh, I know I sometimes fall short with my humor but it was good to see that the place is still alive. Now, where was I...oh..... man, you sho do be using some big words....ain't gotta go to the gym.....dat there dictionary done worn me out. ahhhh...help me out..."the triumvirate of scientifically advancing and aggressively promulgating Negro minstrelsy and buffoonery"....WOW......and..."mindless high impact coonery". Okay, lets assume we all knew what you were trying to say and accepted it as facts, which it is not, but just so that we can quickly jump over arguement lets say a bunch of fools get together and come up with an all out "buffoonery attack". My question is....AND? Look, I am somewhat hearing what you are saying, really, I truely understand your position but who cares or who should care. How does it affect you me or anyone. Are we maybe looking through the eyes of.......pssst.....come closer.....ahhh...white folk? Carey Carey |

"Look, I am somewhat hearing what you are saying, really, I truely understand your position but who cares or who should care." If you do not care about the racially self degrading antics of these misguided gullible Negroes and the impact they have had on a generation of unsupervised young blacks....well......I guess it doesn't matter. "How does it affect you me or anyone." Uhhhhhh....you must not live in a black community if you are clueless as to how black people are affected. "Are we maybe looking through the eyes of.......pssst.....come closer.....ahhh...white folk?" This has nothing to do with white people. That is the predicable chimeric excuse and accusation Negroes use to skirt responsibility and reality. If you are comfortable with black Americans (as a group) being misrepresented by the most reckless, negative, irrresponsible elements of contemporary coon town minstrelsy -then there is no problem. E'nuff said...... |

You wrote: "If you do not care about the racially self degrading antics of these misguided gullible Negroes and the impact they have had on a generation of unsupervised young blacks....well......I guess it doesn't matter". Hip-Hip Harray, we are going to have fun! ahhh, Most people will neither relinquish nor change preconceived ideas, often, they are too frightened or insecure to move off a point. Therefore, attempting to reason with somebody on a logical basis does not work. Individuals convinced of the inherent rightness of their position will never retreat. Having said that, who's responsibility is it to guide "your", "generation of unsupervised young blacks"? Before you answer that question, answer this one, who quided you...Bill Cosby's Show...see my point? Oh, I care.....believe me....I care. I believe your statement concerning my living history was meant as some sort of lame guilt ploy, I will nevertheless tell you that I've "been around".....I was born in the projects and I've earned 6 figures, sooooo, you can suspend that one. You also said: "This has nothing to do with white people"....**cough** **cough**....Again you are wrong. It is not a chimeric excuse nor an accusation individuals use to skirt responsibility and reality. You are right there....you are so close but .....you said ...."reality"...."responsibilty"... what I believe you are missing is "misrepresented"...ahhh....who is being misrepresented? Again, what blue eyes might one be looking through? Do you wish to talk about reality? NUFF SAID! |

"Hip-Hip Harray, we are going to have fun!" Oh really? And what kind of fun might that be? Just curious.... "..ahhh, Most people will neither relinquish nor change preconceived ideas, often, they are too frightened or insecure to move off a point. Therefore, attempting to reason with somebody on a logical basis does not work. Individuals convinced of the inherent rightness of their position will never retreat." Maybe. But nevertheless, someone has to speak out against self destructive and racially degrading behavior. That's the problem now. Too many people are afraid to say anything for fear of being labeled a "sale out" or "Uncle Tom" because they dared to question the outrageous coon culture and the entities that promote and support it. And I'm not convinced of your position that most people are unwilling to change. If black people were convinced of that, historically, there never would have been a civil and human rights struggle because (according to you) people will never change and situations are what they are and should be accepted. "Having said that, who's responsibility is it to guide "your", "generation of unsupervised young blacks"?" Excuse me???? You have no idea who should be the role models and enforcers of a society that does not tolerate nor encourage self destructive behavior??? Perhaps this will toggle your memory: Who held the responsibility of guidance for your parents and grand parents? Why would the behavior that is tolerated and accepted today, not have been tolerated nor accepted by black people in 1940, 1950, 1960 or 1970? Why is it ok now but not then? And who set the standards for it not being ok? Starting to get the picture..???? "Before you answer that question, answer this one, who quided you...Bill Cosby's Show...see my point?" Ha! Ha! Ha! That's funny. Bill Cosby or his show has nothing to do with collective bad behavior. And no, I never needed to watch his show to know better than to disrespect myself and black people as a group by impregnating three or four different women, indulging in anti-social thuggish and criminal behavior, dealing and using drugs, disrespecting black women by constantly referring to them as bitches and ho's, degrading my self and the history of my people by referring to them as "niggers", dressing like a clown, not being able to write nor speak coherent English, every other word that comes out of my mouth is prefaced by "fycuk dat", "motha fucka" and "...you know what I mean", not supporting and being absent for the children I help create, etc, etc..... No, I did not need to watch the Bill Cosby Show to know better. MY PARENTS AND THE SOCIETY I GREW UP IN TAUGHT ME BETTER. Got it...??!! "This has nothing to do with white people"....**cough** **cough**....Again you are wrong. It is not a chimeric excuse nor an accusation individuals use to skirt responsibility and reality." Uh huh.......I see...... Details or examples please........ "You are right there....you are so close but .....you said ...."reality"...."responsibilty"... what I believe you are missing is "misrepresented"...ahhh....who is being misrepresented? Again, what blue eyes might one be looking through?" Misrepresented.....?? Oh......Ok. I'm sure you can provides details about this also. Please, I'd like to hear your theory of "misrepresentation". And by whom and what. "Do you wish to talk about reality?" Just did........ |

Hello Miss Cryptonite That was a very nice diatribe.......and long too! I said we were going to have fun and I just know you got a kick out of ......"misrepresenting" or misunderstanding what I said. Okay, here's a bone......yes...."someone has to speak out against self destructive and racially degrading behavior"...... Here is my problem with your posts....and .....you said it for me. You said it... and .....YOU SAID IT IN BIG CAPS "MY PARENTS AND THE SOCIETY I GREW UP IN TAUGHT ME BETTER". I am going to assume that you didn't live in a cave and their were blacks that acted.....well....like damn fools.....and you said you didn't need to watch TV to know better.....right....help me out here......sooooo, what part of your development had to do with what was or was not on TV? You where the one that said we were being "misrepresented"...I questioned that misrepresentation. Tell me, what are they doing on that program that is not a segment of our life....please tell. Now it's true that you my not like what you see but I doubt that it's untrue. In one whole paragraph you attempted to provide/create an analogy with role models and TELEVISION.... A for profit company that is a choice of entertainment.....WRONG...didn't work....will never work because they are not the "SAME".....good try .....but fell flat in the water. Role models and TV.....are you serious....ooooohhh, I get it....you were reaching for straws and that fell on your head or should I say "OUTTA" . I'll tell you what pissed me off.....when George Jefferson moved out of the neighborhood, I stopped watching channel 6 *LOL*. Another bone: Yes sir....all those dirty names and drug dealing is just disgusting....do you wish that I repeat them.....in fact I can add a few more....BUT Crypto, again you seem to be bent on changing the focus.....clouding the issue....who's selling drugs at BET? Oh lawdy, close all the movie houses.....dey cussing and showin' naked asses up in der....but of course "you've" never seen any of that??? It's so tacky to misquote or take wording out of context to purposely change what someone has said......"I" said most are to frightened or insecure, therefore attempting to reason with them on a logical bais does not work. Now, reference your example of the Civil rights struggle (Thank you very much).....LOGIC DIDN"T WORK......ahhhhhh....marching and gettin' beaten by the police, is that a logical solution???? Getting thrown in jail for standing up for your rights.....was that a "logical" solution?? Nooooo, some white people were convinced of their inherent rightness......sooooooo Please....work with me......who said any behavior is being tolerated....huh...who said that. I know you are not implying that because someone choses to watch a funky TV program or nasty movie that it's being tolerated!! I am having so much fun....in fact, I had to stop typing for a minute because I dripped a bit of tootie fruity ice cream on my keyboard. I think I'll sing a song.....goes something like this: "oh what a beautiful morning - oh what a beautiful day - everythings comin' up roses - I think I'll watch BET today . |
