Anyone a Roots fan? Have you heard the new release? What do you think? What else is everyone else listening to right now?

I have a weakness for groups that still sing and play their own instruments. Their appearance on that Dave Chapelle Film was great. They are supposed to be in town pretty soon--I don't go to live concerts anymore so I won't go-- unless they let me get up and do an A and B selection. |

Damn--I used to listen to music all day and every day--the last music I listened to was an oldies station over the weekend--they started off good, "Long Tall Sally". "Respect". Then they played "Teen Angel" and I went over to ESPN. |

Since, I've gotten into YouTube, I'm just having a ball, clicking on to videos of some of my favorite artists of both the past and the present. |

Cynique, amazingly, I just started using YouTube for this. The author Carleen Brice http://authors.aalbc.com/carleen_brice.htm had a Nina Simone video on her site, next thing I knew I was clicking and watching videos of Nina, the Beatles (she covered one of their songs I prefered the Beatles' version) and God know who else for the next 30 minutes. Chris I saw the Head Hunters a couple of weeks ago. The band included Bill Summers, and Lenny White both of whom enjoyed some commerical success with some popular funk tunes in the 70's. But they are skilled musicians. Bill talked about how he had to teach this young boy how to play funk music correctly. That boy was Sly Stone... Yeah you see thr Roots drummer all over the place. They played with Etta james here in NY recently. I HATE I missed that concert -- I just found out about it too late. They also played with Erika Badu, but I could not bring myself to go see that -- but I should have just kept an open mind and went. Is wish there was a Netflix for CD's -- I'd damn sure join that club. Peace |

I just have to mention that one of the old videos I recently enjoyed was of Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones performing "If You Start Me Up". This is a classic performance that set the bar for all the Rock groups who followed. Watching Mick strut his stuff is riveting. He says Tina Turner taught him some of his moves, and I can believe that. The Jimi Hendrix videos are also exciting fare! |
