(Cited by LA Times and MSNBC.) Is Jeremiah Wright a colossal disaster for Barack Obama or a press trick? The Rev. Dr. Barbara Reynolds and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright at the National Press Club event Monday, which was organized by Reynolds. Tuesday, April 29th 2008, 4:00 AM The Rev. Jeremiah Wright couldn't have done more damage to Barack Obama's campaign if he had tried. And you have to wonder if that's just what one friend of Wright wanted. Shortly before he rose to deliver his rambling, angry, sarcastic remarks at the National Press Club Monday, Wright sat next to, and chatted with, Barbara Reynolds. A former editorial board member at USA Today, she runs something called Reynolds News Services and teaches ministry at the Howard University School of Divinity. (She is an ordained minister). It also turns out that Reynolds - introduced Monday as a member of the National Press Club "who organized" the event - is an enthusiastic Hillary Clinton supporter. On a blog linked to her Web site- www.reynoldsnews.com- Reynolds said in a February post: "My vote for Hillary in the Maryland primary was my way of saying thank you" to Clinton and her husband for the successes of Bill Clinton's presidency. The same post criticized Obama's "Audacity of Hope" theme: "Hope by definition is not based on facts," wrote Reynolds. It is an emotional expectation. Things hoped for may or may not come. But help based on experience trumps hope every time." In another blog entry, Reynolds gives an ever-sharper critique of Obama: "It is a sad testimony that to protect his credentials as a unifier above the fray, the senator is fueling the media characterization that Rev. Dr. Wright is some retiring old uncle in the church basement." I don't know if Reynolds' eagerness to help Wright stage a disastrous news conference with the national media was a way of trying to help Clinton - my queries to Reynolds by phone and e-mail weren't returned yesterday - but it's safe to say she didn't see any conflict between promoting Wright and supporting Clinton. It's hard to exaggerate how bad the actual news conference was. Wright, steeped in an honorable, fiery tradition of Bible-based social criticism, cheapened his arguments and his movement by mugging for the cameras, rolling his eyes, heaping scorn on his critics and acting as if nobody in the room was learned enough to ask him a question. Wright has, unquestionably, been caricatured and vilified unfairly. The feeding programs, prison outreach and other social services he has built over more than 30 years are commendable, and his reading of the Judeo-Christian tradition as an epic story of people trying to escape slavery is far more right than wrong - and not something to be caricatured or compressed into a 10-second sound bite. But Wright should have known - and his friend and ally Reynolds, a media professional, surely knew - that bickering with the press can only harm Wright and, by extension, Obama. I hope that wasn't their goal. elouis@nydailynews.com http://www.nydailynews.com/opinions/columnists/louis/index.html |

Some native-born U.S. Negroes just can't stand an exotic like Barack Obama. One thing's for sure, if Barack weathers this storm and get's elected President, those same Negroes will be doing nothing more than cutting the White House lawn blade by blade for at least the next four years. And we wonder why black America can't get anywhere in today's post-20th Century society. The choir's singin' and the organ's broke. Puhleeze! |

I would not be surprised if there is a call by the public for some sort of media restructuring after these elections are through. This is the ultimate in playing the race card...it is low, even for the Clintons and the media. I'm like Louis, I hope it isn't true.

As illustrated by this Wright brouhaha, the candidates cannot control what other people associated with them do. Barbara Reynolds may have taken it upon herself to do this mischief without sanction from the Hillary's folks. This contest has the followers of each candidate succumbing to hysteria and paranoia. The talking heads, the political pundits and bloggers are all in a frenzy, overreacting to everything. This campaign has become a cottage industry. In November, the voters will speak and whatever will be, will be. And so it goes. |

Negroes? The pattern is set--if Obama gets to be President he will be apologizing three times a day. |

Somewhere Wright and Obama have had a falling out-- This is a lesson to Negroes. If you run for national office, belong to some nice, white safe church--Presbyterian would be nice. |

"Negroes?" Damn right! "The pattern is set--if Obama gets to be President he will be apologizing three times a day." Sheeeit. If he becomes President, there won't be anything to apologize for because at the rate the economy is going, he'll probably get "laid off" the day after his inaguration. |

The Wright issue is becoming stale, boring and overwrought. Media melodrama and over kill at its best. We got the picture. We know the man is a bitter and has serious issues with Americas past and its present foreign and domestic policies. Again -we got it! Now get over it. The Obama haters and hysterical detractors are going to continue to throw logs into the fire to keep this Wright issue going (as if Obama himself was directly responsible for Wrights diatribes and thinking). If they sense the fire is dying (public interest) -they will frantically pour lighter fluid into the smoldering cinders. They need something -anything, to attack and undermine the possibility and chance for Obama to be POTUS. They are desperate and this is an opportunity they are not going to let pass. NO WAY! These people are frantic and any trick or gimmick to cast doubt or any misstep by Obama, will be seized and exaggerated to its fullest or in order to discredit him. They are on a relentless mission to create suspicion, loathing, shock, second thoughts, indecision and dislike among the voters. But what should the real issues be? What meaningful attention should be given to Obama? What questions and explanations should the press and public be asking him? Let's see......Hmmmmmm.... Well, never mind what he proposes to to address the crippling federal budget cuts that are strangling the states. Never mind 8 years of disastrous, alienating and failed foreign policies. Never mind the fact that gas prices are near $4.00 a gallon nation wide and the affects have been devastating for consumers and businesses alike. Never mind an American economy that is so shaky, we have lost the confidence of investors both foreign and domestic. And what about the American housing market? Need I say anything? No need to discuss a strong resurgence of the Taliban in Afghanistan and the continuing bloody secular civil war in Iraq because of a bumbling incompetent White House administration. Never mind the fact that the military-industrial complex (KBR, Black Water, Halliburton, et al) is gang raping and fleecing the American tax payers for billions of dollars for an un-winnable foreign military occupation (Iraq). The fact that the American middle class is being reduced to near under class status and both white and blue color jobs are continuing to be out sourced (thank you very much Mr. Bush...) to China, India and Mexico, is not worthy of discussion. No, let’s continue to obsess over Rev. Wrights issues with America. Why? It's more important. Don't be silly.... And of course we should not be concerned about 9 trillion dollar national deficit (remember, during Clinton's sixth year there was a $69 billion budget surplus) that Bush alone created to support his foreign military occupation and the financing of private companies to sustain it (there are more than 180,000 non-military personal being financed by the US government in Iraq). And don't forget, the president says we are a nation at war; yet instead of calling for sacrifice -he calls for tax cuts that benefit the wealthiest and biggest corporations. WTF??? The list goes on and on and on...... But none of the aforementioned issues take precedence of Rev. Wright and his personal issues with America. Nawwwww...... You see, never mind what I listed, those issues are not important. REVEREND WRIGHT AND THE FACT THAT OBAMA WAS A MEMBER OF HIS CHURCH IS MUCH, MUCH MORE IMPORTANT. Rather than discuss or ask for details of what Obama would do to address the issues I listed, instead, we should focus on Rev Wright. Yeah, that's right. Why? Well.....because, again, it’s more important. Just ask Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingram or listen to FOX channel news. They know what's best......

White folks are going to milk it till it runs dry. Get used to this. If by some miracle now Obama is nominated and then wins in November it will be a steady diet of this for four years... He won't be in any shape to run for re election when they are through) |
