OK I know Google has already records the entire internet on a regular basis and has their sights set on recording anything ever printed on paper. But now it seems they are going to archive the entire planet. I read, a year ot two back, about this project, but I just noticed some of the output while looking for a business in my neighborhood. I'm accustomed to using Google maps to get get aerial views of locations, but a few moments ago I noticed you can now get street level picture -- as if you were walking down the street. I "walked" virtually down the street until I got to my house: The car out front is one of my cars. Can you image? Suppose it was my wife's boy friend's car?! A few cars down I can recognize a neighborhood guy unloading his car. Last week I got a $50 ticket for blowing a red light. The ticket came with a crisp shot of the car and a closeup of the licence plate. It was clearly my car, but I had to actually think for a minute to recall when I was at the location. Suppose it was at a time or place that I did not want anyone to know where I was at? This particular car is registered in my wife's name. So the ticket actually went to her. In reality I don't really mind this too much because I'm not usually doing anything wrong and have little to hide. But as the technology improves the government and private businesses will continue to find more creative ways to generate revenue at the expense of our privacy. It is already bad enough everybody and their mother has a video camera on their phone and can easly place these videos on Youtube. Already embrassing videos of regular folks are on YouTube. Apparently google aleady sells a small device that you can use to surrepticously track the movement of something or someone... This will get much worse before it is controlled -- if ever.
