These are the questions posed by The Souls of Black Girls, a provocative documentary which suggests that African-American females are suffering from a form of self-image disorder.

(Duhhh! Ya think?

What planet have these Negroes been living on? 500 years in this country and they don't know nothing?)

Nice post Troy. There is much to be said about this subject. I hope it opens a serious dialogue and perhaps something meaningful will come out it.

This is a familiar subject to everyone but to those to whom it applies. Any infomed person knows that black females have self-esteem issues, but the very ones who need to hear the analyses of why this is so, are the same ones who don't bother to keep themselves informed. They are shallow superficial people who live in the moment and don't concern themselves with anything other than trying to attract men and get over on other women.
It's the same thing with young black males. The only ones heeding the common sense advice of those worried about their welfare, are the ones who already know the deal.
So all of the do-gooders sharing their wisdom are simply "preachin to the choir". The message is loud and clear but it isn't reaching the ears of the people who need to hear it the most. And so it goes.
