WHAT DID I SAY?
Rev. Wright, Tempest in a Teapot!
Why? Obama used it as an opportunity to turn it around, to speak plainly without crawling or throwing anybody under the bus.
Of course it helped that HE did not actually say the offending words, nor was he on record giving them a big "Right On!"
Only thing I fault him on is waiting so long to do it, and in being too intellectual.
He is not getting the white working class because he is not getting down with them. He is coming off like a Harvard Law Review--stiff, intellectual.
He got to get in his shirtsleeves, go to the ballgame, eat some brats, guzzle some beer, talk to them on their level.
Other than that--brilliance. Sheer brilliance.

I never said this was gonna hurt him. Even with the bad media (coming mainly from angry white men on the right) I think he's going to recover and do fine.
I'm still supporting my girl Hillary though.

Oh shut up, chrishayden. Always trying to take credit for something for which you don't deserve.
If this incident was a tempest in a teapot, Obama wouldn't have had to go before the nation and make this momentous speech. And if he gains the nomination and loses the election you can bet that images of this ranting preacher goddamning America and Michelle Obama's statement about never having been proud of her country will figure into the loss because these sound bytes are going to be exploited by the right-wing Republicans.
It remains to be seen how well Obana's speech went over with the man in the street. And if Obama had such good "judgment" he would've figured out by now that he had to court blue collar white men. |
