Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was elected to leadership following 14 years of civil war. A new documentary, Iron Ladies of Liberia, explores the evolving role of President Sirleaf and the women helping her to lead the country. The film's directors, Daniel Junge and Siatta Scott Johnson, talk about the film.

Sorry. She's a U.S. puppet. Right now she's doing the same thing the other puppet leaders of Liberia did--she is raking off as much dough as she can and stashing it in Swiss Bank Accounts.

Liberia HAS to be in a pitiful condition. That is it's role in the World Economic Scheme.

Anybody who tries to do better for the people will get overturned.

When the people catch up to her, or she steps out of line, she will have to flee the country like the rest of them or get shot and the game will begin again.

You are an academic. You ought to know better.

Chris, I know you have an aversion to all things NPR, but did you listen to the piece? What am I supposed to "know better" about as an academic? Being interested in and curious about the world? Assuming that not everything is part of some Evil World Order or U.S.-led conspiracy? I am sure there are challenges ahead as there have been behind. That is part of what makes her story so fascinating to me.

Anyway...

I am especially intrigued by the filmmakers--particularly Siatta Scott Johnson. See the Independent Lens site for the film: http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/ironladies/

(I heard it. The usual Neocon pap)

(I didn't say everything. I just mentioned Liberia, which has been under the U.S. thumb since the 19th century and run by the rubber companies primarily.

Hmm. You know I wouldn't want you to get in no trouble on your job--

Whaaaaa?? Chris linking to a "neocon pap" site? LOL Again, though, how is being aware of a complex history reason to not look at a documentary or be interested in the subjects it depicts, or the film makers behind it? Many people are surely capable of viewing any piece of work with a critical eye and mind.

Give it up, Yvette. You know chrishayden can never acknowledge that anything other than what he dispenses has any merit. If this Iron Ladies reference appeared on the huffington blog site, he'd be extolling it as the gospel.
