Sen. Clinton To Attend Paterson's Swearing-In Ceremony by: robert.harding Fri Mar 14, 2008 at 15:29:17 PM EDT Governor-to-be David Paterson will have a special guest in his corner when he is sworn in as the new governor of New York on Monday: Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton. Sen. Hillary Clinton will take a break from campaigning in Pennsylvania to attend Governor designate David Paterson's swearing in on Monday. Paterson has been a strong supporter of Clinton's candidacy for president. It certainly doesn't hurt Clinton to have the support of the first black governor of New York, and the third black governor in the country since reconstruction. This is what Paterson had to say about Clinton: "The most supportive person to me has been Hillary Clinton. She has, I think, has helped to pave a way for us to take control of the Senate...I think with that kind of personal relationship with someone, to just turn you back on them because someone from another state is running is just something I didn't want to do. For a number of years, on contests like that, I have and most likely will support the African-American candidate...it's a lot more than just their color, but it's the exact same reason I'm supporting Hillary because she has helped to create the same kinds of opportunities...I think what I'm doing makes perfect sense. And I get the feeling most people know that, and that's why I'm not being seriously asked to switch support." Paterson is a superdelegate who will be supporting Clinton. He has also worked the campaign trail for her as a supporter. http://www.thealbanyproject.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=2495 |
