One of the rewards to be reaped from hangin' out at Thumper's Corner is coming in contact with an interesting cross section of people. So when I learned that "Yvettep", one of my favorite posters, was coming to a conference in Chicago for the purpose of presenting a paper in the field where she holds a PHd, it was a given that we would have to "do lunch". Which we did. Ooh, the conversation! Ooooh, the laughs!! Yvette is a lovely lady, with an inner glow that shines through her reserve; totally unpretentious and deeply intelligent. She confirmed in person why she is such an asset to this board. |

THANKS, CYNIQUE!!!!! It was wonderful seeing you in the flesh, too. Glad you were able to allay the concerns of your son, your safe return to his car confirming that I was, in fact, who I said I was and not some psycho! LOL You all, I could say Cynique is wonderful and sweet and kind--but she'd prolly be mad at me for ruining her rep as a feisty fighter. (But she is all of that! ) She is as witty as she is here. I even got to see her tattoos! I was concerned I might not recognize her from her book jacket cover. But, waiting in the ornate Hilton lobby, I recognized her at once. She walked in as if she owned the place, in full diva-effect mode! But then she was down-to-earth enough to have a burger in the hotel Irish pub! LOL Thanks for the laughs! |

Chris, most would probably find my paper topic pretty dry. It was on the communication between internationally adopted siblings. It went well, I think. I managed to properly advance my power point slides and the couple jokes I inserted did result in laughs--not uproarious laughter but I'll settle for "polite." I didn't trip over the mic chord, nor did I spill my water. I finished on time, and was able to halfway intelligently answer the questions that followed... All in all, a nice result. (I know my standards for success are pretty low! LOL) |

I didn't attend the lecture, but Yvette and I briefly discussed this subject because it is a timely one, what with how adopting children from foreign countries has almost become a fad among Hollywood celebs and well-meaning white "patrons". |

Troy, we have a certified expert here on the list. She is getting ready to write THE DEFINITIVE TREATISE on overseas adoptions. Surely somebody here can help her get published. |
