She's no wonder, just someone who doesn't mind playing dirty just like all the others that have taken Ohio in recent "elections". There were a LOT of irregularities here in the Ohio voting process, as usual. People who declared themselves as Independents, for example, were told that they couldn't vote in the primary because they were undeclared and were led to a booth to vote on issues only. And of course people here were encouraged to vote absentee ballots--all the restrictions were lifted and anyone who wanted to vote this way could before March 4th there is no way they could have counted all of those ballots by the end of election day. Everyone who lives here also knows that this is a state that is sold to the one who has the power and the mindset to bargain political favors and who doesn't mind winning by hook, or by crook. That is why Ohio has become such a pivitol state when it comes to buying elections. Not to mention the fact that Ohio is typically a REPUBLICAN state. Republican Ohio wants the weakest Democratic candidate to win the nomination and look forward to her being crushed by McCain. |

Appealing to her power base of white older women and men and blue collar working people is a more realistic reason for HRC's victory than the old stealing the election whine. Obama had plenty of money to spend on committing the dirty offenses you want to attribute exclusively to the Clinton team. And the bad blood between Democrats goes on, much to the delight of the Republicans.

Are you? I worked the elections. I know what I know about Ohio and who chooses to believe or not believe doesn't change what went on here. When I went to bed, Obama was winning ALL of the big cities here in ohio and Hillary had only won a few outlying cities, the news reports had called Texas and Rhode Island for Obama with Ohio undecided. I wake up and suddently Hillary has won all three states. States that everyone said she HAD to win to stay in the race. She looses 11 straight but suddenly wins all three big ones? Smells like dead fish to me. But anyone here is entitled to believe what they choose to believe, it doesn't change the facts. |

"Not to mention the fact that Ohio is typically a REPUBLICAN state." Something I do not understand. I really don't. When I go back to Ohio, I recall where I was raised. It was a booming blue collar working class city. So was everywhere else in North Eastern Ohio and neighboring Pennsylvania. It was great. But now, the city has half the population, jobs are very scarce, and there is a level of lethal violence, drugs and gang activity that did not exist when I lived there. As A_womon can attest to, hundreds of thousands of jobs have disappeared because of outsourcing and foreign competition. You would think Ohioans, as a group, would see the light. They don't. And as anyone with an excess of 25 brains cells will tell you, people don't vote their interests. It's very strange and confusing. But it is true. Ohio tipped the scales for Bush and each time his administration has done absolutely nothing to address their concerns. The Republican party is primarily concerned with (once again): 1.) Class, 2.) Big business, 3.) Race. They have no use nor interest for unions, the blue collar working class, the under class, the uninsured, the under educated, outrageous gas prices, struggling middle class or unemployed. Yet these groups seem incapable of voting for someone who shares or is at least willing to consider their interests. And the economic spiral down hill continues........ "Republican Ohio wants the weakest Democratic candidate to win the nomination and look forward to her being crushed by McCain." Brilliant observation. This is why the Reich Minister of Propaganda, Rush Limbaugh, was hysterically calling for Texas Republicans to vote in the Democratic primary nomination for Hillary. The GOP believes she would be easier to defeat then Obama in a general election (yes -they believe that). But regardless, the people get what they vote for. If the general election puts McCain in the White House, someone who has vowed to continue this disastrous war in Iraq and continue the ruinous failed foreign policies of Bush, so be it. If the overall American people are dumb enough to continue to send their sons and daughters to die for billion dollar profits of the military complex (Halliburton, KBR, et al) and oil, well.....they have made a decisions to continue being willing mindless gullible fools.

Are there cries for a recount in Ohio? Is there hard evidence of vote fraud? Or just the usual ruminating. Are Obama's people calling "foul"?. What do the exit polls show? Obviously all bets are off when it comes to judging Ohio by the past because it's a whole new day. As we all know, people are looking for change and Obama and Hillary can be perceived as symbols of change, in that they are Democrats. In any case, Obama needs to learn how to play hard ball. He's already being saddled with the "glass jaw" label. The Republicans are not going to pull any punches in the general election. And Hillary's message of his being more about speeches than substance is making inroads. I wish somebody would emerge with a clear-cut victory because now the stage is set for all of the in-fighting that will shatter party unity, and clear the way for McCain. |

If people around here hate Hillary, they should really detest John McCain's harpie wife. She's scary-looking, with her opaque blue eyes and alabaster skin and platinum blond hair. And she's a super patriot who's one of those "my country, right or wrong, - my country!" conservatives. Pundits are now even starting to factor in the "Saturday Night Live" effect in this race. This show's continuous spoofing of the candidates, giving Hillary props for being a "b i t c h" and accusing the press of favoring Obama is trickling down into the pop culture community. After HRC's cameo appearance on this show last week, showing herself to be a good sport with a sense of humor, Obama has requested equal time. And for what they're worth, polls are also showing that Democrats would consider an Obama Clinton coupling a dream team. |

"In any case, Obama needs to learn how to play hard ball. He's already being saddled with the "glass jaw" label." I agree. Now is his final wake up call if he wants to finalize his nomination. Let's see what he does. Neither has anything to lose now by UFC Style Octagon political fighting. "The Republicans are not going to pull any punches in the general election. ." You got that right!!! They are already oiling the smear machine. They will seek any cheap and distracting trick or methodology to derail Clinton or Obama. "And Hillary's message of his being more about speeches than substance is making inroads.." Seems that way. Obama will have to be more definitive about his positions and offerings now. He has the charisma and karma, let's see if he can couple it with concrete and clearly defined polices. I hope he does. It'll be interesting. "I wish somebody would emerge with a clear-cut victory because now the stage is set for all of the in-fighting that will shatter party unity, and clear the way for McCain.." Good point. This is a fear that is growing everyday among the Dems. As you know, Hucklebe dropped out. McCain is now the GOP pilot and copilot. "And for what they're worth, polls are also showing that Democrats would consider an Obama Clinton coupling a dream team." Ya know, I doubt that. But I wouldn't be opposed to it.

Obama to sharpen criticism of Clinton By TOM RAUM, Associated Press Writer 05 March 2008 Democratic Sen. Barack Obama on Wednesday blamed his primary defeats in Ohio and Texas on rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's criticism and news converage that he argued benefited her at his expense. The presidential candidate said he planned to do more in the days ahead to raise doubts about his opponent's claims to foreign policy and other Washington experience. In a television ad that her campaign credits with helping her win, she portrayed herself as most prepared to handle an international crisis. "What exactly is this foreign policy experience?" Obama asked mockingly. "Was she negotiating treaties? Was she handling crises? The answer is no." Clinton, who was asked in TV interviews Wednesday about her national security qualifications, ticked off a series events in which she played a role, including peace talks in Northern Ireland, the Kosovo refugee crisis and standing up for women's rights in China. She also cited her work on the Senate Armed Services Committee. Obama's campaign immediately delivered on his pledge to criticize Clinton. Aides distributed a memo and held a conference call to question why she won't release her tax returns. The Clinton campaign responded with a statement e-mailed to reporters while they were on the Obama call that said the Clintons' returns since they left the White House will be made public around April 15. Obama reflected on the losses that broke a 12-contest winning streak in a talk with reporters aboard his campaign plane as he returned to his hometown of Chicago from San Antonio. "There's no doubt that Senator Clinton went very negative over the last week," Obama said. He said the Clinton campaign's multiple attacks "had some impact" on the election results "particularly in the context where many of you in the press corps had been persuaded that you had been too hard on her and too soft on me." "Complaining about the refs apparently worked a little bit this week," he said, equating members of the news media with referees in a sporting event. "So hopefully in addition to my call to Lorne Michaels, hopefully now people feel like everything's evened out and we can start actually covering the campaign properly," he said. Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the reference to Michaels, producer of the television comedy show "Saturday Night Live," was a joke. The show has recently featured skits in which actors portraying reporters lob softball questions at an Obama impersonator and hardball ones at a Clinton character. Clinton herself appeared on the show last weekend. Obama was on the show last November. Obama also complained about what he said was "the notion that somehow all the states I win somehow are not bellwether states but the states that Senator Clinton wins, those are the critical ones." He said it was "a strange way of keeping score and I don't think it makes much sense." As to tactics ahead, Obama said that Clinton "made a series of arguments on why she should be a superior candidate. I think it's important to examine that argument." "We're happy to join the debate, If that's the debate they want to have," Obama said, noting Clinton's efforts to portray him as lacking her level of experience. "In the coming weeks, we will join her in that argument." Obama also brushed off a question about a joint ticket with Clinton. "We are just focused on winning this nomination," he said. "I think it is premature to start talking about a joint ticket." Obama had nothing on his public schedule Wednesday and Thursday. Friday, he flies to Wyoming to campaign and was also expected to go to Mississippi over the weekend — sites of the next two Democratic contests.

NTFS, Your post on how much Ohio has changed is spot on! The economy is in shambles, we have one of the worse housing markets in the US and the illegal immigrants are flooding Ohio all of a sudden like nobody's business, jobs have all but evaporated, and the state's budget is so out of whack that there is a state wide freeze on civil service jobs-yet again, public education has become a pathetic joke here, with drop- out rates the highest they've been in history. Of course, the board of education will spin this little fact by including only the best and brightest in the statiscal data that they present to the public. I could go on and on about the deconstruction of Ohio since it has embraced its newfound position as "president maker". If the overall American people are dumb enough to continue to send their sons and daughters to die for billion dollar profits of the military complex (Halliburton, KBR, et al) and oil, well.....they have made a decisions to continue being willing mindless gullible fools. This could be true too, NTFS, but my take is a little bit different. Those powerful few the special interest groups and others in power who position themselves to deliver a state to whichever candidate they choose, continue to subvert the will of the people, the population at large with back-room, good-ol'-boy, back slapping, get richer deals, that do nothing for the state or the economy they live in but, continue to fatten the bank accounts and financial portfolios of the chosen few. It's very difficult to continue to believe in a system that is truly broken and seemingly beyond repair. We have become a country whose outcome is dictated by the elite few.

"Your post on how much Ohio has changed is spot on! The economy is in shambles, we have one of the worse housing markets in the US and the illegal immigrants are........public education has become a pathetic joke here, with drop- out rates the highest they've been in history." So true....so true. It's heart breaking. As I stated before, in the city I was raised in, it is just the opposite of what is was then. And your comment about public education could never be more accurate. There were six public and two Catholic high schools when I lived there. Now there are only two public high schools and the two Catholic high schools. Of the six public schools: Woodrow Wilson was all white, Cheney was all white, Rayen was mixed, East was mixed, South was virtually all black and North was completely black and the two Catholic high schools were as white as Iceland! Now, East is all black, Cheney is mixed and the one of the Catholic schools is virtually all black and the other is mixed. No one every thought that could ever happen. "Of course, the board of education will spin this little fact by including only the best and brightest in the statiscal data that they present to the public." Ya know, every year my mom would send me newspaper clippings of the county high school math and reading comprehension testing rankings. As expected, the white schools were good to fair and the black schools were abominable. The black high schools in my city (the only black schools in the entire county) had abysmal math scores and the reading level was that of six and seventh graders. But they were the same public schools I went to. They were the same schools where many of my black friends had educational levels to attend Princeton, Cornell, Ohio State, Annapolis, Oberlin, Michigan, West Point, MIT, etc. Not any more. Those days are gone. "This could be true too, NTFS, but my take is a little bit different. Those powerful few the special interest groups and others in power who position themselves to deliver a state to whichever candidate they choose, continue to subvert the will of the people, the population at large with back-room, good-ol'-boy, back slapping, get richer deals, that do nothing for the state or the economy they live in but, continue to fatten the bank accounts and financial portfolios of the chosen few." Oh no A_womon; I AGREE 100% WITH YOU! But still, you would think the people would have the common sense God gave a dog to realize what there real interests are -BUT THEY DON'T!! My mom, who is a hard core political junkie, used to constantly debate the politics of Ohio. She was numb with disbelief when Ohio tipped the scales for a second term for Bush. Like many other totally uninformed and ignorant Americans, they bought into the carefully crafted scare tactics of the terrorists are coming to get you! They believed all the smoke and mirrors and duplicity of Bush. After almost eight years, you think that they have learned their lesson after more needless deaths of their sons and daughters in his cherry picked war and his consciously deliberate failure to do anything about the growing slave labor pool pouring across the borders which has negatively impacted American labor. But fuyk 'em! If they give McCain a win so that he can continue the destructive polices of Bush (and he will), they deserve it. E'nuff said.....

Perhaps you did not completely read my post. But you are correct, they had no idea Obama would surge as he has. So they had to switch up and go with Hillary with the belief that she would be easier to defeat than Obama. And yes, this strategy of theirs has been in effect. I never stated it began just today. Limbaugh aggressively came out publicly to announce their plan to tip the scales for Hillary in Texas and Ohio. I guess it worked. But that's the Democrats fault for having open rather than registered primary elections.

Such machinations. Rush and Oprah need to take a back seat instead of assuming the guises of being the powers behind the throne. Jack Nicholson, in his Joker getup from Bat Man, probably scored a few thousand votes for ol Hillary with his TV endorsement spot. |
