...One of the biggest black hair shows in the country, Hair Wars is a Detroit-born, national touring, three-hours-plus extravaganza of blooming, towering, blinking, spinning, smoking, cartoon-like hair creations. The purveyors of these gravity-defying dos achieve rock-star levels of fame in Detroit and beyond. They’re not hair stylists, hairdressers, hair designers or even hair artistes. These are hair entertainers. And they reign supreme in the Motor City, the hair capital of the world...

A bowl of fighting fish can look quite elegant entangled in a head of hair, and a python can give an updo a certain edginess.

These are not fashion lessons to be learned off the pages of Vogue, but Hair Wars is not a typical fashion venue. At the circus-like style extravaganza, nothing is off-limits.

David Humphries created Hair Wars about 20 years ago in Detroit. Over the decades, it has turned into a national touring show...

Thanks, Yvette, for diversifying the subject matter up in here. Even I am sick of the political contretemps.

Looks like hair do's from the Rio Festivals...

"Thanks, Yvette, for diversifying the subject matter up in here."

I agree. It is a start. Please post more "non-Hillary-Obama" rants and raves.

"Even I am sick of the political contretemps."

Ditto......

Well, you're welcome to you too. Check out the post on reclaiming Lorraine Hansbery's identity as a lesbian playwrite and activist. What are you all reading/listening to lately?

What else can we talk about...

Yes, I did look at the hair styles, Yvette. They seem to me to be more about construction than style. The runway show must've been like a parade with each model being a float.

"Well, you're welcome to you too. Check out the post on reclaiming Lorraine Hansbery's identity as a lesbian playwrite and activist. What are you all reading/listening to lately?"

Wow! Too much to list! But to list something, I just received a book that documents the history of black Washingtonians (just got it in the mail -the book is in my car), a biography about Blanche K. Bruce (elected to the Mississippi Senate in 1874 ) written by L. Otis Graham (great talk and interview about the book on Book Notes CSPAN) and "The Art of Deception", written by the notorious but fascinating Kevin Mitnick. He was America's most wanted computer hacking outlaw who eluded the police, US Marshall’s , and the FBI for over two years after vanishing while on probation for his 1989 conviction for computer and access device fraud. He was finally caught in 1995.

As far as music is concerned, well, I could fill this entire forum about that. But while I was in San Francisco and Berkeley last week, I picked up two Miles Davis quintet (with John Coltrane) live European recordings that have not been released before. Also snatched up an Eric Dolpy Europe quartet recording (with Herbie Hancock) and an awesome 4 CD slim box by Proper Music of John Lee Hooker.

"What else can we talk about..."

Well, anything but the excessive and now never ending boring posts about the Hillary vs. Obama drama.
