Enchanted, I am not sure I am following your post. As I have said elsewhere, I am an Obama supporter. Honestly, I do not always follow these political threads so I may have missed some of what you seem to be talking about in terms of Tonya's sentiments about Sen Obama. I guess I would say two things.
First, he is a public figure and so I do not feel compelled to stick up for him when folks make personal attacks. And second, I take Tonya's (and Chris's) posts for what they are: passionate, over the top posts written by strong personalities who are not shy about being shocking or even offensive. Really, I'd be concerned if posts by these two were not outrageous because that is who they are on these boards. (I think the same about Kola's posts, FWIW.)
I think most of us here recognize racism--We deal with it most every day in some form or another. My interest as a result of some of these Clinton-Obama conversations is how we seem less able to talk about sexism, violence against women, etc with the same openness and sensitivity. I do not care for Sen Clinton on too many grounds to list here. However, I mistrust critiques of her that rely solely on sexism. Fr example, I do not trust someone who would call her a b****, because I know that is just one step away from that same person calling me the same.
And I will discuss this from time to time.
Whatever Tonya's or anyone else's issues are with Obama are their own. I doubt a good roll in the hay with a Black man is going to change anyone's vote to him--no more than sex with a White woman would cause someone to vote Clinton. I just found that conversation a little silly, so I jumped in, when most often I would have just stayed out.
I love, love, love the idea of a Black family with two little Black girls in the White house--I myself am part of a Black family with two little Black girls. I hear your passion about what that represents for you. But I respect that other folks are not moved by this image and will vote for Obama for other reasons, or for other candidates entirely. It certainly would not be enough for me to vote for him.
I am so glad that this election is pointing out (again) the shortcomings of capital-F feminism for many Black women (and others). I have decided to continue to self-identify as a feminist despite that, just as I have decided to continue to call myself a Democrat even though I have serious issues with this party generally and the 2-party monopoly more generally.
I do not know if this addresses what you wrote--I'm sure it's more than you care to hear, but there it is--"my to cnets" as Ntfs_jokester said. |

Tonya's headlines and short comments about the articles she posted might have been over the top, but the content of the commentaries she provided were intelligent rebuttals to the Obama propaganda flooding this board. Tonya's remarks were certainly no worse than the hate-filled degrading comments chrishayden and others made about HRC. Many of the articles Tonya posted were from reputable magazines written by intelligent objective people who offered thoughtful commentary about this very controverisal contest between Obama and HRC
And nobody is more skewed in their viewpoints than YOU and your lying self. Considering the language you couched your biased opinions about HRC in and how you inflated Obama to saint status, you have no room to talk. Puleeze.
Or have you yet had anything incisive or original to say either about this election, or about feminism. And the more you attack Tonya and HRC, the more tolerable they become to me. Anybody who you pan, automatically has redeeming qualities.
