Well, I don't think this poster told any informed person something that they didn't already know: Obama draws a broad cross section of supporters. So what else is new?

And as I stated before, I have no problems with her supporting Hillary. But it was one post after another, flooding the board with with pro-Hillary blather and anti-Obama posts. I have been very clear about not being a Hillary hater but I think she carried it to another level. As a result, I have to admit, she has turned the tenor of this board completely around.

A_womon, if you're going to talk bunk about me, UNPROVOKED, the very least you can do is have your facts in order.

Where do you get this stuff? I offered months ago to send a copy of my debut novel to Madame Cynique simply because I've taken a strong liking to her via our acquaintance on this forum. She reminds me of my grandma, who's no longer with us, but played a major role in raising me. To be perfectly honest, I was rather hesitant to send my novel to Madame Cynique because of her age; I didn't think she'd care for all the sex and cussing in my book. Plus, she falls outside the target audience demographics for my novel. But then I thought, she DOES hang out here and, by her own accounts, she has LIVED. So, upon further consideration, I didn't think there would be anything in my book that would shock her. So I went ahead and sent it. Even if she never bothered to read it, I just wanted Madame Cynique to have a signed copy of my book as a momento.
Madame Cynique then graciously sent off a signed copy of her book for me to add to my collection. There was never a quid pro quo, or any other requests on her part. I genuinely enjoyed her book, and don't mind telling people so.
As you know, I work in the industry. I see A LOT OF CRAP on a regular basis; writing that I hope is NEVER published. Self-publishing takes a bad rap mainly because, in most cases, self-pubbed books aren't vetted for quality. In my expert opinion, FWIW, I believe Madame Cynique's book, Along the Way, would have been commercially viable had she gone that route rather than self-pubbing. Hers is one self-pubbed book that I believe other self-pubbed novelists can learn quite a few dos and don'ts from. I think it's a solid example of what self-pubbing a novel can be, so it's my pleasure letting writers who are considering self-pubbing know about her book. While I won't go as far as saying that Madame Cynique's book is editorially flawless, I still firmly believe novelists considering self-pubbing can benefit from her book. And should my making mention of Madame Cynique's self-pubbed novel generate a few sales for her - big deal! Really, it's not taking food off your table, so why do you care?

Forgive me if I don’t sugarcoat shit and tell you what you want to hear, the way you want to hear it, about the publishing industry. Forgive Auntie if she doesn’t kiss your boo-boo and make it all better. Forgive me if I neither cuddle nor coddle you. And please, please forgive me for treating you like a savvy, mature adult.
The more you post and comment about the book world, the more you show anyone here with even a vague understanding of publishing, how green, ignorant, and naïve you are about the industry. I cannot think of a single question you’ve posed that should not have been thoroughly addressed to your complete satisfaction by your agent BEFORE you signed your “damn good” book deal. Your agent is your advocate; that’s why they take 15% of your earnings right off the top. If you can’t turn to them for information, advice, and/or clarification of your publishing questions/concerns, then you really ought to sever your contract agreement with said agent and continue your search for competent, effective literary representation.
BTW, where is your book? You’ve been talking about your book long before I ever mentioned mine. In the interim, my book has been published, received many favorable reviews, and is under consideration for two literary awards. Mind you, writing is my secondary career. Where is your book? And don’t feed me the BS that it’s been pushed back. So was mine. It was originally scheduled for July 2007 publication, but was actually released October 2007. So, while it may be true that your book was indeed pushed back, you should have still been informed of your revised publication date. Your publisher can’t push back your book indefinitely and just leave you hanging without communicating their decision to your agent, who then communicates with you. Another news flash: books are generally pushed back in quarterly intervals: 3, 6, 9, 12 months, etc. The further your publication is delayed, tells you just how much of a priority your book is to your publisher. Based on my unscientific calculations, to date, your book has been postponed NINE MONTHS. Tsk, tsk. No wonder you’re running up in here acting like you’re on your rag.
In a nutshell: go f-uck yourself! You’re nothing, a nobody. I wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire. I learned early in my career that you don’t, can’t, become successful without ruffling a few feathers on your way up. I accept that, and acknowledge that I’ve made my share of friends as well as foes in this industry. But you, darling, are in no position to be neither friend nor foe, because you do nothing for no one besides YOURSELF; and, apparently, can’t even accomplish that. On the other hand, my “over-inflated fucking ego” is instrumental in getting other authors’ books published. My over-inflated fucking ego launches and nurtures other authors’ writing careers. Of course, it is my job to do so, but my profession is of my own choosing. I could just as easily use my education, experience, skills, talent, and contacts to pursue a far more lucrative, yet far less communal, field. But my over-inflated fucking ego compels me to tread a career path that isn’t all about me.
Please be certain to let me know when that book of yours is FINALLY published. I will not hesitate to buy a copy to walk with at all times - never know when I might need toilet paper.

BTW, for anybody whose interested I did read Urban Scribe's book and although it was street lit, it held my interest and hipped me to the ethos of another culture. Any book that I learn from is time well worth spent and I'd recommend her novel because it was well-written. |

If I had been that serious about it, I would've pursued it and tried to do something with it. As she is quick to tell you, I'm an old lady. I don't have the hunger or the drive for success anymore. But I do like to write; putting my little novellas together is fun and fulfilling. I never have more than 200 copies printed up and any I have left, I give away. |

Ya know, I have to agree with you on this one Ms. Cynique. I saw that also. I'm not defending Hillary or Bill (no need to), but I did notice the hyperbole and word manipulation. I never believed it was a deliberate statement made to inflame some kind of racist reactionary sentiment. People should remember that hard line white racists would be the last to vote for Hillary or Obama. They have no need to hear that race nonsense since they already dislike Obama (and Hillary). What would be the point?
But I have to admit, she sounded very weak last night by attempting to hype up this so-called plagiarism issue. She sounded desperate (which I'm sure she is at this point) and looking for anything to discredit Obama. But as you know, this is typical of any politician. They (or their hired hatchet men) will do anything to undermine an opponent.

I think Hillary is prepared for the worst, NTFS. And, in fact, seems on the verge of becoming a Obama convert, herself. She was almost fawning over him at the end of the debate. |

I know. But I think her behavior was the typical dog and phony show behavior. When she is alone (whenever that may be), I know she is thinking, "How in the fuyck did this happen..??!!" She was looking like the winning horse at one time. Obama was like a minor blip on the screen. A P-3 in a race with an F-18 Hornet. No way. Now, she is looking down the gun barrel of possible defeat. How did this happen???
Hard line conservatives are still rolling in the floor, slobbering and having convulsions about John McCain. Again -"How in the fuyck did this happen..??!!" But it ain't over until it's over. Delegate voting in Texas, Ohio, etc, have yet to happen. Look at the Patriots and Giants. Given the dismal offensive effort of the Giants up to that point, when the Patriots scored their last touchdown, it looked like a done deal. Perhaps totally hopeless for New York. No need to elaborate on the out come.....

Well, the pendulum has swung again. Hillary is now raising hell with Obama for putting out flyers misrepresenting her stand of NAFTA. She's called him out, demanding that he refute the lies of his staff. The stage is now set for a lover's quarrel. And the plot thickens.... |
