Key section of Obama speech is adapted material From Josh Levs CNN ATLANTA (CNN) -- A central passage in the stump speech Barack Obama has been giving in recent days -- aimed at convincing voters that his campaign is not just about lofty rhetoric -- is adapted from Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, Obama's campaign acknowledged over the weekend. Striking similarities between Obama's words and those of Patrick during his 2006 election campaign have raised eyebrows and attracted traffic on YouTube. Responding to attacks from Democratic rival Sen. Hillary Clinton that he offers words while she offers action, Obama has been arguing that words matter. Saturday night at a gala for the Wisconsin Democratic Party, Obama said to frequent applause, "Don't tell me words don't matter! 'I have a dream.' Just words. 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.' Just words. 'We have nothing to fear but fear itself.' Just words, just speeches!" In 2006, Patrick, fending off attacks from his rival Kerry Healey, told a crowd, "Her dismissive point, and I hear it a lot from her staff, is all I have to offer is words. Just words. 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal' -- just words. Just words. 'We have nothing to fear but fear itself' -- just words. 'Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country' -- just words. 'I have a dream' -- just words." An Obama campaign spokesman said Monday the campaign was "obviously not traumatized" by the discovery of the similarities, "which is why we're not putting out any official statement." But the campaign did have Patrick -- an Obama supporter -- call the New York Times over the weekend and issue a statement. "Senator Obama and I are long-time friends and allies. We often share ideas about politics, policy and language," Patrick said in the statement. "The argument in question, on the value of words in the public square, is one about which he and I have spoken frequently before. Given the recent attacks from Senator Clinton, I applaud him responding in just the way he did." The Obama campaign also confirmed comments chief strategist David Axelrod made to the New York Times about the speeches. "They often riff off one another. They share a world view," Axelrod told the Times, referring to Obama and Patrick. "Both of them are effective speakers whose words tend to get requoted and arguments tend to be embraced widely." Clinton argues that while Obama provides rousing speeches, she has the stronger grasp of the issues and the knowledge of how to use the presidency to start making changes from "day one." Speaking last week at a General Motors plant in Ohio, she said, "There's a big difference between us - speeches versus solutions, talk versus action. You know, some people may think words are change. But you and I know better. Words are cheap. I know it takes work." Find this article at: http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/02/18/obama.patrick |

This stuff is NOTHING NEW. ALL POLITICIANS use speechwriters and sometime the SPEECHWRITERS recycle the rhetoric. It happens. Just like Billary's speechwriters are now including the word CHANGE an awful lot in her new material. Guess OBAMA hit home with that word, hunh? |

First of all "change" is a word Hillary has been using in stump speeches and on many of her banners since the summer. Both candidates have been using "change" as in "change from the Republicans" throughout their campaign. But you didn't know that because THE PRESS didn’t want you to know. And secondly Obama deceitfully chose to let the media describe him as some sort of wordsmith wizard when he knew goddamn well those words wasn't his. He allowed the media to lie to his voters; in fact he went along with it..cuz that's what phonies do.

Doesn't matter NEITHER ONE of the candidates are using THIER OWN WORDS. They are still the words of THIER SPEECHWRITERS so I guess if that makes OBAMA a phoney then BILLARY AND EVERY OTHER POLITICIAN ARE PHONIES TOO! |

"Doesn't matter NEITHER ONE of the candidates are using THIER OWN WORDS. They are still the words of THIER SPEECHWRITERS so I guess if that makes OBAMA a phoney then BILLARY AND EVERY OTHER POLITICIAN ARE PHONIES TOO!" Thanks A_womon for injecting some intelligence into this silly issue. As you stated, all major politicians use speech writers. There is nothing new or even interesting happening here. Just more of the tired chicken shit carping and tattle tail gossip (probably researched and leaked by a anonymous third party henchmen) to generate attention away from a panic stricken losing candidate. The evidence presented in this story is not compelling enough to show the alleged has an ongoing history of direct and deliberate conscious plagiarism. But of course the frantic and bitter Hillaryites will hysterically clap their hands, foam at the mouth and scream in unison, "See! See! See what he's doing? I told you!!". Bottom line to the Hillaryites: "Sorry. I know you're desperate at this time, but you'll have to do better than this -much better". E'nuff said.....

Governor Deval Patrick, the person Obama allegedly lifted some lines from, is an ARDENT Obama Supporter. And he said he approves of Obama using his lines. And they asked one of Hillary Clinton's senior campaign managers would he promise that SHE has NEVER used someone else's lines without the authors' permission. Of course, the campaign manager REFUSED to make that promise. |

"have fun turning this proud black man into just another n." So it's not that you have a problem with the word; you just don't want me using it against your messiah. Got it. I guess treating him like just another politician is off limits too. Boy, you people got it bad for this man. If by some miracle he ends up winning the nomination, I want him to drop his draws so I can see what ol' Wally is working with, god damn.

On the money D23. Thank you. You just saved me a lot of writing. Confused Negroes will never get the respect they howl and wail about because they lack the minimum level of intelligence and a sense of history that would prevent them from gleefully and openly referring to themselves (and their own race) with vile racist language that was created by whites to strip and deny them of their humanity. I’m done......

Ntfs & Dobes, I disagree with you guys about the alleged evil of wielding the n-word. At some point, we've got to disabuse that word of all the faux-supernatural power that history has invested in it. But I'll also add I'm just as comfortable with Tonya calling Barack a niggah as I am with calling Hillary a b*tch or ho, which, when I'm am inclined to, is EXACTLY what I will do. |

At some point, we've got to disabuse that word of all the faux-supernatural power that history has invested in it. I agree. And that point for me will come when the n-word (and "b****" and "ho" for that matter) is no longer intimately connected to the violence--verbal, spiritual, and physical--that so often accompanies it.

tonya are you treating him like another politician? how many of the others have you labeled like that? and let's see shall we, let's take a look and see how political you truely are, in the last election with bush and kerry how many posts did you have? now compare them to the amount of posts you have now, it's not even close. your not a political minded person you have yet to discuss the candidates on their issues, you are posting whatever you can to discredit obama's character and you see it isn't going to do anything he still keeps winning. actually clinton and obama have a lot of the same ideas ... just one of them presents their ideas better, one's differences are better, and one doesn't cry after a loss he just shakes it off and prep for the next campaign... and that one has been obama... it's lights out for clinton and time for you to get some tums or zantac for all those sour grapes you've been swallowing tonya.

Hummm. I wasn't here during Bush & Kerry, at the very least I’m almost certain I wasn’t. Bush & Kerry was before I joined this forum. And just because you only respond to the things you take personally, (as if Barack is every Black man and every Black man is Barack ect), that doesn't mean I haven't discussed the issues; in fact I have. It's simply that you and others never chime in unless I've said something that, for whatever reason, you and others take personally. And feminism is political; get your facts straight, all of them, boobee. And finally, despite what your master "validated" you to think, you slave to the man and his corporate white media - (ugh!), like I said before, it ain't over till it's over.
