Regardless of your feelings about Obama, do you think we will see a male of African descent as president of the US in your lifetime? A female of African descent? Another (non-Black) male or female of color? |

My crystal ball in clouded. Wouldn't it be something if Condoleeza was selected to run with McCain's as his vice president and they got elected and then he died in office... |

I'd rather see it being done the right way. This shit here--the way it’s being done-- doesn't count in my opinion.

I have no idea why, but whenever I see someone as tall as he is (and Shaquille O'Neal, Conan O'Brien, and Yao Ming), the first thing I think is "science experience gone horribly awry." |

I meant to say "science EXPERIMENT gone horribly awry". What? SHE'S six feet tall? YIKES. That seems so unnatural to me....but I guess you have to consider how I grew up.... 5'2" and one of the TALLER girls in my family. Other southern women seem (from what I've seen) to be between 5'1" and 5'6" on average. I don't think I've ever seen a woman over 5'7" in person. |

That's why I don't get models. They don't look anything like real people to me. I really want to start a modeling agency for "real sized women" and have the height requirement be about 5'4" or so. No one shorter than 5'1" and no one taller than 5'5". |

I can't believe Renata, who has been everywere, done everything, and dated everybody, would make this stupid statement. "I don't think I've ever seen a woman over 5'7" in person." If you visited Chicago, as you claim you did, then you must've been wearing a blind fold if didn't see any woman over 5'7". But for you, walking around with a blind fold on is a distinct possibility. watta ditz. |

ABM, women shaped like Dolly Parton are not difficult to find in MS, AL, and GA....and I guess TN too, since that's where she's from. Like I've said before, I think it must be all of that biscuits and pork we tend to eat here. Most of the guys I've dated before marriage had been Asian, but never Chinese. Maybe I just don't really pay attention to women.

OK you're a lying white-livered coward who continues to try and pass yourself off as someone who can't type or construct a sentence, insisting that the reason you were able to do this when you first started posting was because you had someone proofreading and editing what you wrote. Because kola obviously suffers from multiple personality sydrome, you probably are a separate entity in her psyche. |

It seems Ebony has marketed IMPROVED since its founder's daughter Linda Johnson Rice has taken over the reigns. To tell the truth, ABM, it has been years since I have purchased an Ebony. But I was very impressed. Not just the Obama piece, but the whole thing seems a few notches higher in quality: better writing, better layout design, everything. So maybe you are right about the change in leadership . BTW, this may not be the case with every issue, but the nicest thing about the magazine is that as far as I can tell so far, there does not seem to be a single liquor ad in the whole issue!

Madame Cynique was sweet enough to send me a signed copy of her novel Along the Way. I really, really enjoyed it. I'm always amazed by how different people can take different things from the same book. But her book gave me a sense of nostalgia for eras when I wasn't even thought about, much less born. For me, Along the Way was a charming book from beginning to end. My mom also read the book, and in her words, "She (meaning Madame Cynique) nailed the 50s, 60s, and 70s. The way she captured those eras was spot-on. I know cuz I was there, and old enough to remember them and young enough not to forget them." |

ABM, I lived in MS until I was just twenty, so not there, but in AL (on the coast) and GA there are plenty. They actually like black women a lot, but are afraid to approach them. Some had been turned down so often by us that they just give up. A friend of mine in New York (who's Japanese, 22, and desperately looking for a black woman as he'll ONLY date black women) says that 97% of Japanese men in NY are single and are HOPING black women will say something to them because they're too shy and afraid she'll say no if he approaches first. I have nothing at all against tall people. You guys are just overrated. So, MOVE OVER because the shawties will be taking over in 2009 (that's when I should be started in a marketing campaign I'll be doing for a business I've got on my mind.) If you're tall, you can model for me if you look like Sheryl Lee Ralph. I'm so excited! I'll be doing home decor and ready to wear fashions. I wasn't planning on making purses, but when I wear my purses out that I make myself, a lot of people ask me to make one for them, so I might consider it. |

Back atcha, Cynique! Speaking of bright, personable, perceptive women, I have to gush and say that I got to meet Yvette in person last year when she came to Pittsburgh for a conference. We gabbed well into the night with another cyber (now "real") friend, Deb, who came to visit as well. My girls got to meet Yvette too. Next time, we're going to the Frozen North to see her and her girls. :-) |

Good! I'm glad it's occurring to people that older folks are the embodiment of history, Yvette. Sometimes you don't have to go to books to learn about the past. I'm fortunate that my family has always been interested in what life was like when I was young. |
