My suspicion is that if Obama were to be elected president, that would be a sea change in American politics, one that in fact would redefine the country and gain the U.S. a new level of admiration and respect from around the world. The world is watching very closely to see if America is ready for real change, or will it just simply slink away back into the politics of devisiveness and rancor of the past. Can America look past November and see the bigger picture? Again and IMO, if Hillary wins the Democratic nomination, she will be trounced by the Republicans in November. |

Nels,
I am very suspicious of the kind of leader Hillary is capable of being. I mean, it seems to me, most of the better, more effective presidents have been very likable, charismatic people, who can bridge divides along politics, ideology, etc. I just don't see that in Hillary. If anything, her history has been quite the opposite.
But I'm thinking she'll get the job. Because the GOP has allowed Bush/Cheney to fuhked things up for McCain or Romney (though I think McCain would probably win were he not such a gotdayam war hawk).
And the nation's probably still a bit to racist for Obama. |

I'm taking my kids with me to our caucus Tuesday. They are hyped. A favorite pasttime of theirs is counting Obama bumper stickers and lawn signs as we drive here and there. We were looking at some temp housing recently and they informed my husband and I that they definitely wanted to take that place because of all the Obama stickers on the doors.
Too bad 7 year olds can't vote! |

I understand your point. However, I really think that if Hillary gets the Dem nod, that the populace will take a hard right, just like they did when millions of immigrants marched in the streets two to three years ago. I was dead on right then, and I still think that too many people dislike Hillary to make her electable, regardless of likeability -- and that is something to consider. What Obama offers is something that no other candidate has and that is -- a viable vision for the future. All that the old guard has offered is a rehashed and reshuffled vision from the past, but nothing fresh. Sadly to say, John Edwards could have been a viable choice, but he may actually be the one that kills Obama's bid, should Obama not get the party nod because he's siphoning off support at Obama's expense, and he knows it. |
