Would it be possible to lose all the primaries and go to the convention and still be selected the nominee? Are the delegates locked in to voting for their candidate? Have there been situations in the past where candidates have been selected at the conventions who were literally unknown before? |

I think there have been situations where deals were made at conventions of the sort you allude to. But I think that usually occurred when there was no clearcut nominee and, thus, the party picked whom it believed was most electable. And I think it would be much more difficult to do that now because the public is much more aware of things they would be a 100 or so years ago when these dealings were more common. |

"What would/could anybody do about it if all the Democrats agreed?" NOT vote for whom the delegates in the general election, which, of course, the delegates would NOT want to happen. |

If they were really bothered with someone whom the party selected that the majority did not support, there likely would be enuff foks who would abstain from voting that would allow the GOP to win. |
