Hello All, I am still in the middle, rapidly approaching the end, of Tracy Price-Thompson's Gather Together In My Name. After finishing the shitty book that I had been reading, I needed a really good book to wash the bad taste out of my mouth. Fortunately, I picked up Gather Together In My Name. The book is MARVELOUS!! This here is the reason why Price-Thompson is one of my favorite authors! Shyne, a thug, is convicted of murdering his ex girlfriend and raping and killing her 3 year old daughter. Shyne is sentenced to death and the book begins on Shyne's last day. The book is basically how the ones who are connected to Shyne in one way or the other is affected by his upcoming execution. The book is wonderful. I'll come back and tell you how I feel about the book when I'm finish, but if you are like me and don't want to, or aint got the money, to deal with the shopping this long holiday weekend and want to curl up with a couple of good books, pick Gather Together in My Name.

Hello All, OK, I finished the book. No, it did not take me long, not even 24 hours! All that I am capable of saying about the book right now at this very minute is this... GET IT! THE ENDING IS AN ASS WIPER! |

For y'all that that may not be familiar, "ASS WIPER" is a good thing, a very good thing. Thumper, you may not know but I visited Tracy (http://aalbc.com/authors/tracyprice-thompson.htm) in Oahu this Summer -- very gracious and down to earth host, like all my home girls from Brookland. I read her book on the flight over (on my Kindle -- cool device). I read it cause Shunda Leigh from Booking Matters magazine said it was one the best book she read in the last 5 years. It was certainly a solid read. Glad to see you are getting back into your groove now. |

I'm on it. Should be able to start it this weekend. "Trading Dreams at Midnight" is a little slower than I expected. Thanks for the tip. |

Okay, it's time for me to stop being silly and listen to grown folks. Now, when 3 people I respect, hits the board with all this "AZZ Wipen-I told ya so-solid read-Sh*t" I have to take a look. My money is funny but they done made me dig deep. Hey, maybe I'll buy it and read it and THEN give it away as a X-mas gift. Yeah, that's the lick. If Emanuel can find a little cash (he's always cryin' broke) I think I can too. |

Ha ha. I'm still broke Carey. Just did some X-mas shopping on Amazon via AALBC.com this past weekend (highly recommended if you buy stuff at toy stores, electronic stores, and even clothing stores). A brother is getting his mileage from his library card though. At least I'm showing support through my tax dollars. Being a reviewer all these years has spoiled me. If I can't a review copy, it's off to the library I go (unless it's an author I'm trying to support with my dollars). Then I'll break down a buy a copy. |

Well Emanuel, you may not know it but over the years you've given me great ideas. Do you remember that photo I posted years ago and you said it would make a good book cover. Well, after the Obama victory I wrote a little something and posted it on the board. I got positive feedback from several individuals, including some on this board. I re-wrote it, had it edited and somewhat expanded. Then I attached the picture I am referring to and a couple more. One was of my grandfather I spoke of in the piece. I submitted it to a publication and they ran it, pictures and all. Thanks for the tip. Now on this book thang. Again you've showed the way. I just recently spoke with my daughter. We talked about books and on-line shopping. See, I'm getting older and I mentioned to her how dangerous it could be for me to walk through the snow to the library. Of course she agreed and then asked what books I was thinking about getting? **idea** I said, "There is this one by Tracy Price-Thompson" **BINGO** She said, why don't you hold off getting that one, Santa may have something for you. See how thangs go. A little post, a little talk, and BAM, a new book. Thanks |

Yup. I remember Carey. I finished the book two days ago and liked it a lot. There was a bit of predictability but overall it was a solid novella. |
