Hello All, I'm back on the stump, with some good news I might add. Annette Gordon-Reed became the first black author to win the National Book Award for non-fiction for The Hemingses of Monticello: An American Family. Here's the link, http://www.usatoday.com/life/books/news/2008-11-19-national-book-awards_N.htm?cs p=34. I remember first seeing Gordon-Reed a few years ago when it was proven that Thomas Jefferson really did father Sally Hennings children. I congratulate Gordon-Reed on her award. I might have to read this book. |

Thumper, How are you? Thanks for the link. I heard a very little bit of the author speaking on Book-TV. According to the list of award winners at powells.com, Orlando Patterson, the Jamaican-born Harvard sociologist, won the Nat. Book Award for nonfiction in 1991. |

Hello All, Steve: I just say this post: I am fine. You are welcome. I'm going to check this book out myself. I admit, I get a kind of evil glee to think what would Thomas Jefferson (what a freaking hypocrite!) think of Obama becoming a US president. |
