Hello All, FK: We read The Wig when it was republished. The book is still relevant. Here's our review of The Wig, http://aalbc.com/reviews/thewig.htm. |

Hey, Thumper, Before the obit, I never heard of him. Couldn't help but wonder what he could have done, if only... Thanks for the link to the review. I'm going to check it out now. |

Hello All, Carey: Thanks for answering FK. I have been gone for awhile...I know. Life has been giving me a run for my money, much like it has been for everybody else nowadays. A lot of sickness and death has been running through my family and friends and it has kinda of made me stop stretching myself so thin. I not only smell the coffee, but I seem to be drinking it by the gallons. A bad habit I know. But all the stress was making me batty, so I picked up another vice to go with the cigs. Much of my writing I put on hold until I can resolve some of the many issues I have going on. But, I just wanted to say thanks and to let everybody know I am still kicking. FK. I am pleased my review helped you to make an informed decision to buy The Wig, and thanks so much for the article on Mr. Wright. I loved his book and would love to read his other works. I have not had the pleasure yet to look or find either. It would be geat to see if much of the article was correct in the statements they cited. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did. As Carey replied...no, I am not Sisgal (Hi Sisgal) But, I am/was a regular on the boards and a reviewer for AALBC. Just been in a deep funk lately! |

Hey, Linda...I wish you strength, peace, and comfort during what I hope is just a season for you. I've been there with the loss of several loved ones at once, and taking good care of yourself in the aftermath is imperative, not optional. Best to you, ~Deesha |

Hello Ladies, Linda it was so nice to see that you are still kickin'. Now I want to walk softly because I've been called a tattletale *lol* but I haven't heard from you since our last "exchange". When I saw your name on the board I began to wonder what was up with you! But you've eased my fears. Yeah, life can be a B**ch and stepping back is a solution. I've frequently said that what we hear or see has little to do with change. I believe the rewards come from going through the storm...or at least that's been my experience. Thanks Kitty, for bringing my friend to the board. Btw Kitty, I love that line, "Taking good care of yourself in the aftermath is imperative, not optional"! Oh, Sisgal's name starts with "D"...Troy got me stumbbling around here holding onto a secret that I don't believe is a secret *lol*. |

I wasn't aware SisGal still wanted to remain anonymous. She has provided links to the home page of her newly founded-publishing company. |

I think I saw him at a lit party hosted by Ishmael Reed and Steve Cannon in '98. I think, because I never met him. In any case, it's sad that he never picked up the pen again after "Absolutely Nothing to Get Alarmed About," and that he chose to seek solace in a bottle. However I get the feeling at the end of his last book that he had truly run out of things to say. |

Yes, FK, you should market your inspirational advice for those of us who have experienced life's inevitable set-backs. You could have your words printed on a card bordered with flowers, the messsage set against a misty scene of a sun dawning on the horizon. |

I can identity with my contemporary, Charles Wright. I used to be a diligent contributor to the "letters-to-the-editor" columns of all the local newspapers, but I just gradually stopped writing in. I meet people all of the time who ask me why I don't contribute any more, and I tell them that I just don't have anything else to say about the way the world is. I struggle to not be jaded, but it's hard - when you're a cynic... |

Cynique, I think I'm more tough-love than sentimental with my "inspirational advice", though. ;-) I've toyed with the idea of an anthology about grief; it would include fiction and non-fiction about the side of grief people don't often talk about because it doesn't fit the traditional mold of what we think of as the grief experience. For example, the physical and emotional places where grief may take us that, if the non-grieving knew, they might not feel so sympathetic toward the grieving. A friend who "coped" with her father's death by becoming extremely promiscuous. Others descend into drugs or other, secret addictions and compulsions and obsessions. Americans "allow" people to grieve in very limited ways, and yet people truly grieve in a myriad a ways, not all of them easy to swallow. Ideas...I got a million of 'em! |

People do have to indulge their grief in whatever way brings them closure. Repressing it would seem to be the worst choice. When a person loses a loved one, they lose a part of themself and the part of themself they lose might be equivalent to releasing an inner demon. |

Good morning all Well, I lost yet another family member this month . . . my Aunt Pat. She would have been 73 on Thanksgiving day. Time and distant didn't allow me all the time I wanted to spend with her prior to her passing and for two weeks I didn't get to see her because my house caught fire. My Aunt Pat was like a mother to me, always there when my mother had to work, was busy or could not attend school events. Every holiday was at her house . . . and it was always a pleasure to go home to her. She never had children of her own, so my brothers and I were her world as she was ours. I can't explain all of what I feel or don't feel from her passing. It has and is becoming harder everyday to deal with. I thank you all for your support and condolences at this time in my life. I hope to become stronger and adjust as she would have wanted me to do. FK's words have been ringing in my ears through it all and for that I thank her. But, for now I peep in from time to time to get a laugh or two from the fam here at AALBC and attempt to finish novels I have long ago started. Please continue to pray for me as I do for you all. May peace be with you all through this Holiday Season. |
