Thumper, you know my man Spike has a new one ...I can't wait. I think it comes out next week. I know you are a Spike hater so I don't want to hear any mess out of you. The movie scene has been at an all time low IMO. Richard Gere is even in another love story. Have you seen anything worth watching? |

Hello All, Carey, I don't hate Spike. Its just some of the elements, characters, castings in some of his films don't make any damn sense to me. I am, however, looking forward to his movie, Miracle at St. Anna. If you haven't read the book, I strongly recommend it, because you know how your man Spike can fu_k up a story. I saw the commercial to the new Gere movie...*yawn*. I guess him doing something challenging scares him to death. I'm looking forward to the new Tyler Perry movie though, The Family that Preys. I can't wait to see that one. |

My two faves - hey brothers I am too am excited about the movies this month - Yes, I hate the whole Black woman in drag - but I still have an affinity for Perry's work and integrity - an enigma in a Negro I be. I too am excited about Miracle - if this does well Spike should look at Standing at the Stratch Line - I have been DYING for someone to put this on the big screen. Hey what about DeNiro and Pacino - they have some hoody film about cops and such -- that team together is something - I still hope Perry will be #1 this weekend in the box office - however, it might not happen with a chick flick and an action film with strong veterans - Mmmm, I probably will try and see one or all before the end of the year - not a fan of crowded dark spaces filled with strangers - an enigma in a Negro I be. peace Soul Sister |

Hello Soul_Sister You had to bring up Standing At The Scratch Line. Now you know that is one of my all time favorites. I let my brother borrow my book which I seldom do, and the book came back smelling like Kool cigarettes ...I wanted to smack him ...but he's a fool ...much like myself ...and we could have went somewhere *lol*. Anyway, Spike is the only one who could do that book any justice ...But I don't think the world is ready for King Tremain! Mouse and Easy ...yeah ...But King "I will kill any white man in my way" Tremain ...naw. I forgot about DeNiro and Pacino ...Two of my favorite actors, especially Deniro ...Thanks for reminding me ...I will see that. I really can't get into Tyler Perry ...I mean I saw "The Browns" and I laughed but... Being reminded that you are lurking gives me pause ...But I am a little disappointed at the pass that Zane gets ...the board talks about a myriad of moral issues but the board lays low when her types of books hit the floor. They kicked Desciple ...they hollered out of the window at Dante Moore ...Babies Momma's was debated for a week ...Alcohol & Drugs was a great discussion ...Steve & Nom_de_plume bring us up to speed on great selections ...Nice neighborhoods and institutions of higher learning sparked debate ...on both sides but ...where is the advocants for Zane ...where is the opposition to this moral decay ...is this sort of like a closet secret? ...All other purveyors of "undesireable activity" and subject matter are brought to the table ...is the absence of such a voice telling our young that it's alright? Sorry for bring this to you but I had to vent and I know you feel me ...or at least understand. |

Rapper Fiddy-Cent has a featured role in the DeNiro/Pacino movie listed in the cast under his given name Curtis Jackson. He's come a long way since his drug dealing days. Now instead of being a thug, he portrays one in movies. |

Carey, My brother - ain't no harm in anything specially if you making money and telling some aspect of Black life - that is the new motto of the post-post modern African American "reader." I get sick to my stomach with the cursing/innuendo that goes on in most of the commenting - that I carefully choose what to read - even on this lovely site. Black folk ain't the only ones on the slippery slope into moral decay - the rest of America and the larger world is headed with them -- there are a number of issues that are going on around the world - where "americanism" is the new cry - just do it -- like the retailer says. I am a fundamentalist when it comes to some things - money is cool but at what cost?? You have teenage girls grappling for Zane's textual trash - and the 20 somethings thinking themselves well read because of the Tyree and J. Dickey they read - WHAT!! Incredible - so I lurk and pray and refresh my mind with people like you and some young folk I see plowing through Baldwin, Himes and Gaines - I ain't mad -- just frustrated. Peace ps - what about the new Toni Morrison slated to drop in November "A Mercy" - check out http://nymag.com/guides/fallpreview/2008/books/49499/ |
