Thumper is the only critic who will tell us he HATED a book. So much for the fragile egos of authors. Like Thumper said in the E. Lynn review, it makes for an awkward face-to-face meeting. I'm waiting on the Siskel & Ebert style web show featuring Thumper & Troy discussing books. What do you think fellas? |

Am thinking more of a round table type thang....What's that dudes name that sits in the middle of a group on his television program that opens his segment with a bold question...you know, that older white guy. Anyway, something along those lines. Yeah, ChrisHayden in the middle, Nom-de-plume and Thump on one side and of course myself and another fool rounding out the field. **looking around the room for another fool ** I can see it now, "The View" Thumper's Corner style! Now that would be reality TV!!! |

Hey yawl, on the real, that could fly! It starts with a dream. I would bet my last dollar that would be a smash. Personalities drive shows, can you see all the possibilties? The Good, Bad and Ugly.... Talk about adding a voice......! Guest participants and everythang, the line would reach to the street. |

Carey, You're thinking of The McLaughlin Group. I used to really dig that show. This is certainly doable with streaming video or simply by taking advantage of public access television. Of course, everyone would have to be in the same city. |

Hello Emanuel Yeah, that's the program. Dude, I know you feel me. You generally do not reply unless you have a valid and purposeful point to make. The geographical problem wouldn't be a big issue. At least it would be less of an issue than the personalities involved. Showmanship and the right mix of individuals would drive the show. Of course being in the same city could maybe help the process but remember, Tom Joiner traveled to do his show on a daily basis. Think about it Emanuel, I can invision a guest shouting to the rafters about a Hip-Hop/Crime fiction book and Thumper giving his sharp witted take on the same book. Authors and distributors would die to get their books on the show. There you go, there's your money, a side deal could be the addition of reviews from others not on the panel. Yeah, a segment on the show could include the reading of those reviews. Talk about blowing up "Emanuel". Then of course the panel could even discuss those reviews. The right mix of humor, bold opinions, insightful reviews and interesting personalities (albeit crazy)would take black reading to a new level. Oh boy, the "good" book against the "poor" book, I can hear the heated debates. Am talking about making it interesting, humorous and informative, not another dry author interview. Am really juiced on this. I can see each panel member bringing his "suggestion of the week" each member could get a following of his own. The audience might tune in just to hear and see what he or she had to say. I huge voice could be given to all genres of the black experience. You know, we like a flare in everything we do. The panel would only have to meet for production meetings. Each member's opinions wouldn't be heard by each other until the shoot, that would add to the suspense of the show. Couldn't you see Thumper's face and reactions to a book he totally could not stand yet it was championed/suggested by another panel member. Everyone would be eating from the table, every type of book could be on display. Again, the people in the mix would be key! The books and authors would therefore reap a serintipitous reward....a hugh reward! Lets face it, it's not always about the product, it's how the product is marketed and who the sells the product. Product placement has become of hugh interest...and very profitable. Carey Carey |
