Now last year (ol' boy is on a ROLL kickin out these big-ass books!!) I posted AFTER I came from the signing, so here is the heads-up! He will be signing copies of his newest book, The Palace Council, at the Union Square Barnes & Noble Tuesday July 15th at 7 pm. I really enjoyed last year's and will definitely be there this year. Best to get there early cause he draws quite an impressive crowd! I haven't gotten or started the book yet but probably will before the weekend is out, I see it's nicely discounted at B&N (sorry Troy, I forgot about it til I checked Stilljohn.com last night). Hope to see some of you there! Think this will be another bestseller or "brick lit" (publishing's term for HUGE tomes with HUGE advances paid to authors that wind up not selling that well LOL)? I've got my money on bestseller and hope it does well, he writes for smart folks who ain't scared of big books! |

I'd thought Stephen Carter was dead. Of course I also think this after trying to read another of his dull, badly written books. He's a disgrace to the faculty of his school and the teaching profession. |

Like, you could do better, chrishayden. Stephen Carter is who you want to be like when you grow up. I agree, Nom de Plume. Carter's books are only for people looking for a change of pace. The characters are complicated and the narratives engaging, utilizing language to turn reading into an experience. |

Those books, for me, a nobody, a nothing who lives in inner city St. Louis, would be a triumph. They are a disgrace for a so-called Ivy League Law Professor, proof that the main product of the Negro Middle Class is Mediocrity. Of course it makes you feel comfortable to know that you can understand the work of an Ivy League Law Professor. |

You're the one who seems bedazzled by the notion of Ivy League superiority, chrishayden. Since Carter's a law professor and not a journalist, he does as well as can be expected. |

LMAO I just *knew* that Chris Hayter would be the first one up in the thread with some well-written insults. Keep trying, a few words is better than nothing at all. Cynique - YES! I like the way he writes dialogue too! Eff it, I'm going to the bookstore in half an hour to get my copy. I should be well into it by Tuesday's signing! |

Hey Nom_de_plume, I may actually attend Carter's reading tomorrow. Please look out for me. If we know each other in the physcial world email you scret identity and I look out for you too. Also keep in mind AALBC.com sells book too. You can find any book by clicking the Buy Any Book (advanced book search) link found at the bottom of all of the pages on this discussion baord. Or you can use the google search engine or go straight to the author's pages (for example Stephen Carter). Actually the Amazon price of $17.79, through AALBC.com, is less than the B&N price of $18.86. Every bit helps y'all. Peace |
