Black Writers Reunion & Conference I'm in Tapa, FL atteneding the Black Writers Reunion & Conference -- just here as a participant, not speaking or oresneting at all. I'm throughly impressed with the event. It is was, refreshing, well organized: everything started on time and all of the presenters so far well well prepared and professional. I'm learning quite a bit. The conference is aptly named. In many was it is like a family reunion. You meet people you have not seen in a while, folks you only knew online and people you see all the time, at events like this. The organizer Tia Ross (formerly Tia Shabazz) organizes this event. My hat goes off the her and the other organizers for a terrific job. Troy Johnson & Tia Shabazz Vincent Alexandria, Author and founder of the Brother to Brother Symposium Michelle Gibson (Written Magazine), Tonya Marie Evan (author, poet, and attonery), Mondella Jones Poet Mark Lacy and Author Alica Williams (Brother Marc gets around. In the last 6 weeks I've seen him in Houston, LA and now Tampa. Author Stacey Hawkins Adams This was not just an event for budding authors to learn but an opportunity for established authors to hone their skills and to learn about different aspects of the industry. I'm now running late for a 9AM session Called the "4 P's of Self Publishing" |

Dayum! LOL. You all are plum loco! A kneegrow tries to edumacate folks about a terrific event and... For the rest of all: I HIHGHLY recommend this event to anyone thinking about or who has self publishing a book. It is really an opportunity to learn a great deal about all facets of the publishing industry. I sat in on a seminar on writing dialogue this afternoon given by Jewel Parker Rhodes. It was one of the best seminars, on any subject, I attented in sometime. Jewel is a bundle of energy and so passionate about subject matter it was contagious. After listening to her for an hour I wanted to become a novelist myself! Her insight also help me understand why some writing is just better than other writing. I think next year the event will be in Las Vegas. Speaking for myself, that is the wrong place to hold an event -- and you know why... |

A_woman, I understand the materials for the presentation will be made available on the conference's website: http://www.blackwriters.org I'm disappointed you were not aware of the conference prior to my mentioning it now. I have a babber on the homepage (though I admit it was not a great banner), but I mention it in our newsletters and probably here too. Cynique, one day I hope to have the opportunity to take a phtograph with you... maybe even play some cards too. |

Troy, My bad. now that i think about it, I probably did see it a time or two. If it was in the newsletter I had to have seen it since I'm a subscriber, so the fault is solely mine that I missed such a stellar event! *sigh* Oh well, at least I'll get to read it online, so thanks for the link! And there's always next year, God willing! |
